The Yorba Linda High School lacrosse team capped off their 2025 season with a hard-fought playoff appearance, finishing with an overall record of 10-6. After months of early morning practices, tight matchups, and a roster filled with both seasoned seniors and rising underclassmen, the team has much to be proud of.
Led by Coach Jazmine Garcia, the lady Mustangs built their season around defensive tenacity and quick transitions. While the season started slow with back-to-back losses, Yorba Linda High School rallied midway through, going on a five-game winning streak, including a thrilling 8-7 overtime victory against archival Esperanza High School.
“The team chemistry this year was unreal,” said junior midfielder Eden Choi. “Even when we were down, no one gave up. We trusted each other and kept pushing.”
A major standout was senior captain Lili Sebestyen, who led the team in both ground balls and caused turnovers. Her leadership on and off the field helped anchor a defense that held opponents to an average of just 5.2 goals per game. On offense, sophomore attackman Lia Struppa emerged as a breakout star, netting 27 goals and 18 assists.
Though the Lady Mustangs fell in the second round of the state playoffs, their progress this season marks a turning point for the program. For many players, the growth wasn’t just in skills or stats, but in the bond they built as teammates.
“This season taught me that showing up for each other matters more than anything else,” said senior defender Faith Alam. “We became a family.”
Looking ahead, the team will lose fifteen seniors to graduation, but a strong group of underclassmen — including several JV call-ups who made late-season appearances — gives hope for an even stronger campaign next year.
Coach Jazmine praised the team’s heart and perseverance: “This group gave everything they had every single game. They set a new standard for Yorba Linda lacrosse.”
As the sticks are stored and the turf clears, one thing is clear: the 2025 Lions left it all on the field — and built something that will last long after the final whistle.
Next season, the team aims to build on this momentum with a renewed focus on speed and communication. Off season training and summer leagues will help returning players stay sharp. With rising leaders ready to step up and a dedicated coaching staff, Yorba Linda High School’s lacrosse future looks promising—and the stampede of the lady Mustangs is just getting louder.
