A couple weeks ago, a group of select seniors received a letter, and inside was an invitation to the senior award. The card read, “If you are receiving this letter, you are receiving an award,” These awards ranged from academics, athletics, leadership, career pathways, fine arts, and extracurricular involvement.
The ceremony recognized many of the seniors who have made a difference both inside and outside the classroom through their high school careers. Student’s families, staff, and students gathered to celebrate scholarship recipients, program overachievers, team leaders, performers, and campus organizations that helped shape the school community.
One of the main discussions during the evening was recognizing students for academic excellence and scholarships received. Silver level mustang scholar Mckenzi Reiter (12) who was recognized for her academic standing shares, “I was lucky enough to receive $40,000 in scholarship for Pepperdine University, where I will be attending.” Just like Mckenzi, countless seniors received scholarships from amazing colleges throughout the nation, really highlighting how students excel at Yorba Linda High School.
Student athletes were also celebrated for their commitment to their sports and their significant efforts in their seasons. Student athletes were recognized for staying strong in their academic studies while also performing highly in their sports. Vaughn Sharp was recognized for the impact he has left in football and baseball, his commitment to his team, and ability to balance athletics with academics. He received the male athlete of the year award and was given this recognition by sports director, Jeff Platt. Vaughn Sharp (12) shares, “It is really an honor to receive this award, and I had the best time playing and working hard every day with my teammates on football and baseball.”
Students involved in entertainment and the arts were honored for showcasing creativity and talent through performances, productions, and artistic contributions. This includes areas such as ceramics, the theatre department, or band and orchestra.
The evening reflected the diversity of talent within the graduating class and celebrated students whose passions helped bring creativity and spirit to campus life. As the night came to an end, seniors were applauded not only for their accomplishments, but also for the impact they made during their time at Yorba Linda High School. The four years spent in high school go by incredibly fast, making it important to take a moment to reflect on the memories, accomplishments, and experiences gained along the way. The Class of 2026 truly leaves behind a legacy of hard work, involvement, and school pride.
