Graduating from high school is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming. There is often an unspoken expectation that students should already have their futures mapped out, which creates unnecessary pressure during an already stressful time. For many, choosing community college is seen as a second option, when in reality it is a smart and practical path that deserves just as much recognition as attending a four-year university. Community colleges offer students the chance to explore their interests, save money, and build a strong academic foundation. YLHS student Faith Saba (12) says she is going to a community college because “I can do what is important for the first two years for less money, and since I do not know what I want to do, I can explore my options.”More importantly, it provides a clear pathway to transfer to universities, including CSU and UC schools. Programs like Bridge 2 Transfer highlight the value of this route by supporting students through the transfer process. By offering guidance, mentorship, and resources, initiatives like this help students turn uncertainty into opportunity and redefine what success after high school can look like. YLHS student Kylie Briones (12) says that, “Community college is not failure at all, but just another route to get you to your desired end goal!” Bridge2Transfer, founded by 23-year-old Ethan Webb from Southern California, is a platform dedicated to helping community college students successfully navigate the often confusing transfer process to four-year universities. He was inspired by his own journey from community college to the University of California, Berkeley. Ethan recognized how limited guidance and resources can be for students on this path. Wanting to make the process more accessible, he created Bridge2Transfer to provide mentorship, practical advice, and encouragement to students aiming for their dream schools. Through social media platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok, the program shares valuable insights on topics such as application strategies, personal statements, and managing multiple deadlines. One of its standout features is “Transfer Tuesdays,” a recurring series that offers clear, actionable tips to help students stay organized and confident throughout the application process. He combined personal experience with accessible online content, building a supportive space where students can find both the information and motivation they need. Bridge2Transfer not only simplifies the transfer journey but also empowers community college students to see their path as one filled with opportunity and potential.
