Gift-giving is one of the best experiences of the holiday season, and most importantly, it symbolizes love and generosity.

The holidays are here, and there’s no doubt everyone loves getting gifts during this time of the year. However, securing presents to give to loved ones can be a stressful hassle for many. Sometimes, it’s difficult to find the perfect gift – especially one at a reasonable price.

This year, consider making homemade DIY Christmas presents. A DIY gift is often more special than a store-bought item; the time and care you put into making one is already a gift in and of itself, and that effort will surely be noticed and cherished by family and friends! Melody Sutanto (9) agrees, saying, “DIY gifts are extraordinary because the person who’smaking the gift puts a lot of thought and effort into it.” Homemade presents also allow for much more creativity and uniqueness; making them will undoubtedly be more fun than making a trip to the store.

1. Crochet Sweater

One of the most popular hobbies this year was knitting or crocheting. This skill is perfect for making a homemade sweater, scarf, or mittens for loved ones. You can choose any design you want: make a reindeer, a polar bear, a snowflake, or even ugly holiday-themed!

2. Polaroid Collage

Another comeback in recent years is Polaroids. When put together in a collage, polaroids are excellent at creating a vintage, sentimental gift. Look back at your camera roll and choose your favorite photos of your loved ones, or even snap some funny new ones! When done, arrange the polaroids on a small bulletin board and string some lights around them. To add a personal touch, you can write handwritten letters and pin them around the Polaroids (housebeautiful.com).

3. Melted Crayon Ornaments

Melted Crayon ornaments are not only fun to make, but they will also add a burst of color to your Christmas tree. To make these ornaments, you’ll need a see-through glass ornament and some Crayons of your choice of colors. Peel the Crayons, break them in half, and then put them inside the ornament. Then, direct a hair dryer over the ornament while turning and swirling the ornament in your hand (upstateramblings.com). Be careful, it might be hot! The result is a dazzling mix of colors in the ornament that will undoubtedly brighten your tree.

4. Christmas Cookies

Don’t forget the edible DIY gifts! Christmas baking and crafting go hand in hand, and it is undoubtedly a fun, tasty tradition to prepare for the holidays. Pick any flavor you like. Cinnamon, gingerbread, red velvet, or even plain chocolate chip cookies are the most traditional Christmas flavors. Use icing to make holiday figures, such as a snowman or holly, to top it off. Your family and friends will adore these sweet treats as holiday favors!

5. Cookie Cutter Wreath

If you’re in a rush and need to prepare a gift quickly, make a cookie-cutter wreath! This wreath makes the perfect gift for a friend who decorates every inch of their house for the holidays. To make this present, arrange some cookie cutters in a circular wreath shape and stick them to each other with epoxy adhesive. Add a bow to the top, and it’s ready to hang!

DIY gifts are extraordinary because the person who’smaking the gift puts a lot of thought and effort into it.

— Melody Sutanto (9)

Beyond just these ideas, there are countless more types of DIY presents and every year we seem to see more creative, unique ones. That’s the beauty of it. Giving gifts is a precious tradition during the holidays, but making DIY gifts makes it significantly more special.
