FCA, which stands for Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is a club that brings students together through faith, leadership, and community. The club provides students with a supportive community rooted in faith and fellowship. Through weekly meetings, students are reminded they are not alone in their faith journey.
Many schools in the Placentia-Yorba Linda school district include FCA as a club at their school. Yorba Linda High School has included FCA as a club for over 12 years. Throughout those years, FCA has been a welcoming place for students to grow in community and build strong friendships.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes is an international sports ministry that focuses on combining faith, athletics, and leadership to impact students around the world. FCA is a membership not only for high schools, but for different colleges as well. Officially established in 1966, FCA is a small group designed to bring the bible-study setting to school campuses and communities. Over the years, the organization has continued to grow, offering students a place to connect with others who share similar values while navigating the challenges of school life.
Meetings of this club are held every other Tuesday during lunch in the main gym. FCA meetings are named FCA huddles to symbolize a huddle with a team before a game. During these huddles the club board and parents will hand students free pizza and cookies. As soon as someone walks into the foyer, they are greeted with smiling faces from parents, volunteers, and fellow club members.
For each meeting, the board hosts a guest speaker to preach a short 20-minute message about the gospel. These huddles are designed to help students enjoy a short message that they would normally receive in a church setting. Madison Baez (10) attends every meeting because “everyone makes an effort to make you feel comfortable and help you to learn more about God.” Every meeting has intriguing topics every other week with a new speaker every time.
Being a part of the FCA community is an amazing opportunity filled with many learning moments. Game manager Kayla Nagel (10) has been a part of the FCA board all year. She decided to apply for a board position because she has “experienced and [has] been transformed by the love of Jesus” and wants to “make sure others get to experience that too!” The FCA board consists of two co-presidents, one secretary, one social media manager, and one poster manager. Mikayla Wang (12) and Ciana Masters (12) are co-presidents, Claire Kwon (11) is the secretary, Rebekah Montalvo (11) is the social media manager, Kayla Nagel (10) is the game manager, and Addison Kopiczko (11) is the poster manager.
While students can be busy with school, sports, and extracurriculars, FCA allows them to come together to strengthen and support one another.
