Bad Bunny, who once started as a small Latin artist, has now grown to become one of the most prominent figures in the music industry. He represents the saying that you truly can become anything with hard work and dedication.
Bad Bunny was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, by his two parents and his two brothers. Though he may not speak perfect English, this has not stopped him from shaping modern music in several ways. His music varies from energetic party anthems to emotional songs about heartbreak and personal struggles. Whether you are dancing to his music or crying to it, the message is clear: his music is for everyone.
As a result of his incredible music, Bad Bunny has received multiple awards. Most recently, he won three Grammys, one of which was Album of the Year. Bad Bunny’s album DéBi TiRAR MáS FOtoS went down in history as the first all-Spanish Album to win Album of the Year. While other Latin artists have won this award before, what makes him stand out is the fact that he won with an album completely in Spanish. Bad Bunny wasn’t the only artist nominated for this award, but his dedication and skills were among the many factors that contributed to his being chosen as the recipient of this award.
Andre Herrada (11) says, “I absolutely believe that ‘DéBi TiRAR MáS FOtoS’ deserved Album of the Year, and it has been a long time coming. It’s such a well-rounded album, and it has the streams to prove it. Music is music, no matter the language, and Bad Bunny deserved this win.” Aside from recognizing Bad Bunny’s hard work, this award helped legitimize Spanish-language music in mainstream U.S. awards.
Fresh off the high of winning Album of the Year, Bad Bunny went on to perform an unforgettable halftime show at Super Bowl LX. From the iconic casita to the outstanding dancers and even those dressed as bushes, every element of the show was fun and showed the culture behind his music. The show featured flags of American countries and various well-known Latin artists like Cardi B, Karol G, Pedro Pascal, Young Miko, and Ricky Martin, who performed part of Bad Bunny’s song, LO QUE LE PASÓ A HAWAii.
It didn’t matter if you understood what he was saying, the vibe was there, and most just couldn’t help but dance along to his show. Samantha Hernandez (11) comments, “I thought the halftime show was good. I appreciated how he added very relatable things to the choreo, like the kid sleeping during the wedding. I didn’t like that the songs were only played for what felt like a few seconds before he started singing something else. I would have loved it if he performed them longer.” Though most people enjoyed the show, I think a lot of us can agree that we wish it had been longer!
While his televised performance captured millions from home, Bad Bunny’s tours have allowed fans to experience the show in person. From Latin America to Europe, Bad Bunny has brought the show to millions of fans all over the world, even doing a 31-concert residency in Puerto Rico and four shows in New Mexico. His concerts are highly enjoyed by his fans of all ages, some even flying for hours just to see him.
10 hours of travel didn’t stop this fan from going to one of his concerts in Puerto Rico, Luiz Padilla describes, “I went to Vegas to see his ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’ tour, and it was an amazing experience that I thought nothing could top. I was very wrong, as my trip to Puerto Rico to see him live was an out-of-body experience. If I could go again, I would sell an organ if I had to.” Many fans are like Luiz in that they would do almost anything to experience Bad Bunny perform live, and it’s no secret why, because after his halftime performance, it is clear he puts up quite the show.
Bad Bunny has broken language barriers and proved that you don’t need to understand what he is singing to get the vibe. He has collaborated with artists from different genres, influenced fashion trends, and promoted gender-neutral style. Today, he continues to inspire new Latin and bilingual artists and is a cultural representation and source of pride for Puerto Rican and Latino identity.

Bad Bunny has a very different melody from classic genres. It’s interesting to see how people quickly accepted this new kind of music and love it, even without knowing the exact lyrics.
