The Yorba Linda Public Library is hosting free events for teens ages 13 and up. After a long or particularly exhausting day, attending these programs is the perfect way to wind down, spend time with friends, or bond with other teens in the community. The library’s Teen Advisory Board (TAB) and staff are dedicated to contributing ideas and executing numerous events, including crafts, game nights, and even art competitions. There is something that aligns with every interest at YLPL, and teens should take advantage of the space to relax and have fun.
Here is the schedule for upcoming February Programs; visit the Yorba Linda Public Library website for more details.
- Valentine’s Day To-Go Kits: Due Saturday, January 31. Visit the teen or adult services desk to pick up a kit! For completing the kit, you will receive 2 volunteer hours. Remember to bring your school community service form upon turning it in.
- Teen Valentine Crafting Studio: Tuesday, February 10, 6-7:30 PM. YLPL provides the supplies needed to create hand-made Valentine’s gifts for your loved ones.
- Teen Palette Passport: Tuesday, February 17, 6-7:30 PM. Explore the life of a renowned artist and produce a painting inspired by their techniques.
- Teen Game Night: Tuesday, February 24, 6-7:30 PM. Join for an enjoyable night of board games, including chess, UNO, and more!

Each of these events is beneficial for students’ wellbeing, as they have the opportunity to connect with others and accumulate art skills. The effort that is spent planning and running the programs is commendable; there is much that happens behind the scenes, and Elsa Huchim, a senior library professional and advisor of TAB, shares the extensive process. “We try our best to meet the needs of teens, their interests, and try to work with their demanding schedules,” she explains. “As staff, we have to figure out how to execute programs, including supplies, time frame, and the skill level of attendees. Sometimes we have to do a little more research on how to make a craft, test them out, make instruction pamphlets, and buy supplies.”
However, the work doesn’t end there. After the program’s end, the staff considers public and volunteer feedback, making an effort to improve for next time or decide whether or not to host the event again. In order to offer the best services to the community, communication and refinement are critical to the teen programs’ success.
Teens can also enter the Exposed photography competition hosted by YLPL. 2025’s theme was “If Life Was a Movie,” and anyone in grades 7-12 could enter. While the 2026 Exposed theme has yet to be decided, teens should consider submitting their photography for a chance to win an award! Photos must be original, unpublished, have an explanation, and include a label. Submissions are typically due by early November, and additional information can be found on YLPL’s website later on.
While there are new events every month, the library also offers repeating ones, such as Anime Night, Craft To-Go Kits, and Study Cafe. Most recently, during the January Anime Night, teens watched the acclaimed Studio Ghibli movie Spirited Away and won prizes from the raffle. The Craft To-Go Kits are a great way to provide a dose of kindness to senior citizens and obtain volunteer hours alongside the contribution. While Study Cafe is not monthly, it is organized during AP testing and finals season, providing additional space for teens to concentrate on acing their exams. Snacks and drinks are also arranged, including cookies, pretzels, soda, and tea.
If you ever need a few hours to participate in engaging activities and meet new people, YLPL’s teen events are the place for you.
