Orange County knows how to create a buzzing Christmas spirit with the endless holiday event opportunities in the county. There are so many traditions that attract thousands each year and also new events that continue to add to the holiday spirit. Different attractions include Christmas tree lighting ceremonies and appearances of Santa in many different locations.
Without a doubt, there is something for everybody and every family. Many of the attractions happen to also be free, which makes these activities even more accessible to the public. From sparkling Christmas lights in charming neighborhoods to memorable experiences such as ice skating, in Orange County there is a celebration around every corner.
Starting the list off strong is the iconic tradition of the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade held from December 17th to the 21st. This annual tradition in the harbor features elaborate Christmas light displays of bayfront estates for the Ring of Lights competition. Did you know that this celebration is one of the largest decorated boat parades in the country? Senior Delaney Bojorquez shares, “I love going to the boat parade during the holidays with my family, it is so pretty to see.”
During this celebration the community gathers to watch decorated and lit up boats ride around the bay while the Christmas spirit fills the air with its magic and charm. The businesses and companies in the area also get in the spirit and create a ring of lights around Newport Bay by lining the bay with lights.
As if this entertainment wasn’t enough, there is also a drone and firework show that takes place. It goes without saying that this tradition has become a part of the holiday season in Orange County and will continue to work its magic year after year.
Moving on, a fun activity to take part of during the holiday season is the ice-skating rink at Irvine Spectrum. Glide into the Christmas time with “Skating Under the Stars” at Irvine Spectrum and take part in this fun activity with friends and family. Senior Kennedy Conrad (12) says, “Going to the ice-skating rinks with my friends during Christmas time is something we love doing every year.” Located at the Irvine Spectrum mall and beside the infamous Ferris wheel, the rink is filled with lights, music, and laughter, creating the perfect spirit and ambiance for unforgettable memories.
To wrap up the list, no Christmas season itinerary is complete without the classic picture with Santa. Orange County is filled with numerous opportunities to get the perfect picture that will last a lifetime. For a cozy family friendly ambiance check out The District at Tustin Legacy. For a high quality, very traditional photo, consider South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, and for a cheerful and magical picture consider Downtown Disney in Anaheim.
