Spotlight: YLHS Artists

YLHS have not only academic high achievers and remarkable athletes, but also artists who shines YLHS with their endless creativity and outstanding artistic abilities.

This year, ten artistic students are taking AP Studio Art to enhance their artistic skills and create original works of art that show a great depth and meaning.

AP Studio Art is divided into three different categories: Drawing, 2D Design, and 3D Design. Let’s get to know some of our artistically talented Mustangs in each category :

 

Rayah Shapiro (12)– 2D Design

1. How long have you been an artist?

Ever since I was able to hold a pencil, I have been an artist.

2. Why did you decide to take AP Studio Art?

My favorite teacher, Miss Fritz, teaches the class and I have done AP Studio Art the past two years. Also, I wanted to continue my passion for art at school.

3. How has art influenced your life?

Art has influenced me to look at everything things in creative and inventive ways.

4. What are goals for this year as AP art student?

My goal is to build a strong portfolio to get scholarships for college.

5. Current artwork piece or project you are working on?

I am focusing on building my portfolio for college applications.

 

My Luong (12)– Drawing

1. How long have you been an artist?

I have been an artist since sophomore year of high school.

2. Why did you decide to take AP Studio Art?

For AP credits

3. How has art influenced your life?

Art has influenced my life both positively and negatively. Art helps me relax when I am stressed out while it also stresses me out when I can’t produce an artwork.

4. What are goals for this year as AP art student?

My goal is to create a beautiful portfolio to impress colleges and gain admission to my dream college.

5. Current artwork piece or project you are working on?

I am currently working on a portrait for my friend’s birthday.

 

Robin Yoo (11)– 3D Design

1. How long have you been an artist?

Since third grade. Although I started with drawing, I fell in love with 3D art in sixth grade.

2. Why did you decide to take AP Studio Art?

I wanted to learn and develop more advanced skills in 3D art. Also, I love 3D art!

3. How has art influenced your life?

Art is my spirit. I get to express my feelings and imagination through art.

4. What are goals for this year as AP art student?

My goal is to share my expression that I put into my art piece. I want people to enjoy my artworks and get interested in 3D art.

5. Current artwork piece or project you are working on?

I am currently working on my coffee stick Troy’s Horse. I think this piece will be one of my best artworks.
