As the days become colder and all the leaves change into beautiful shades of brown, orange, and yellow, autumn brings the cozy vibe of warm drinks, family gatherings, and the scent of pumpkin spice candles. Fall is also a great time to create simple decorations to make your home even more inviting. To prepare for the upcoming season, we have some fun and simple DIY fall decorations to boost the autumn coziness:
Tabletop Stack of Books:
Materials:
White paint
Paint brushes
A quote printed out on paper
Books
Scissors/paper cutter
Glue
First, get a few books you would like to use for the stack. Try to choose books that are similar in size. Remove the book jackets and paint them all with white paint to create a clean cover. Sometimes, you have to paint a couple of layers to completely cover up the words and pictures of the book cover. While waiting for the paint to dry, choose a quote about autumn you would like to use. The quote should be split into a few lines, depending on how many books you are using. For example, if I am using three books, then the quote should be split into three lines; therefore, there would be a part of the quote per book. After splitting the quote, you should format it so the length and width of the quote fit onto the spine of the book. Print the quote out and either use scissors or a paper cutter to cut the strips out. Center the strips on the spine and cut off the excess paper. Finally, glue the strips onto the book spine. Do this for all of the books, stack them in order, and you have your tabletop stack of books!
Fall Vase DIY:
Materials:
Coffee can(s)
Twine
Hot glue gun & glue sticks
Gold paint
Paint brush
White string
This project only takes about 5 minutes, but the result is a cute, aesthetic vase for your plants that uses materials from around your house. First, paint the can with gold paint, so the gaps aren’t noticeable when you wrap it in twine. Then, use the hot glue gun to cover the entire can with twine. Put hot glue on a section of twine, then wrap that twine around the can, repeating as you go. Make sure the twine completely covers the can. Lastly, wrap the can with white string a few times and secure it with a bow. You can also add decorations if you want, such as a leaf cutout attached to the white string. And there is your budget-friendly fall-themed plant vase!

Fall Rope Basket:
Materials:
Round laundry basket
50 feet of Rope
Hot glue gun & glue sticks
1 yard of felt fabric
Paint
Paint brush
Utility knife
You can buy a round laundry basket at The Dollar Tree or the 99 Cent Store. You will use the felt to cover the entire basket. First, use the hot glue gun to glue the felt around the base of the laundry basket. Glue the felt to the edge of the basket, folding and gluing the pleats as you go. Next, cut off the excess felt at the side of the basket. Glue the seam together up to the top. Do not cut off the excess felt that goes above the basket, since it will be used later. After that, take the rope and start wrapping it around the base of the basket. Use the hot glue gun to stabilize the rope as you go. After you finish wrapping the basket with the rope, fold the felt back so it hangs outside the basket. This is so you can use a utility knife to cut off the rim and handles of the basket. Afterwards, tuck the felt into the basket, and it will become the liner of the basket. Lastly, paint your basket with fall colors!
As the season shifts from summer’s bright sunshine to autumn’s gentle breeze, fall decorations make our home just as inviting as the season itself. These three simple, budget-friendly DIY craft projects will make your home ready for the season, creating a warm and cozy spot to chill and relax. Emilia Clark (9) shares, “Fall is a very cozy season that allows me to do many things. I can curl up on my couch with a good book and a house that smells like pumpkin spice. I can also take walks outside and look at all the different colors of leaves falling on the ground.” So go ahead and display your new DIY crafts, light your favorite candle, grab your favorite book, and pour a warm drink as you enjoy this fall season.
