The gym was radiating with excitement and buzz as students eagerly anticipated the homecoming weekend festivities. With not a single bleacher empty, mustangs from all over the school were fired up to watch exclusive performances from YLHS band, dance co, cheer/song, and much more. The Rio de Janeiro theme was prevalent in every detail and decoration, making it clear that the bright colors and fast-paced music were only representative of the big weekend that was to come.
YLHS choir first began, leading the pack in singing the national anthem. Students then saw performances from band, dance co (pictured), and cheer/ song. The opportunity to participate in a game hosted by YLHS ASB was then extended, with the rules being as follows: wear a wig, steal others’ wigs, but don’t lose your own! The winner would be the last person standing with the most amount of wins, winning for their entire class. This year, the juniors, class of 2027 won. Following this game, students then watched as the nominees for homecoming court were presented. Nominees walked down the gym with an escort, with many having a planned handshake with their partners. As the end of the rally was in view, the tension thickened as students knew what was next: the reveal of the homecoming queen. Following what seemed like forever, students finally got an answer; Senior Lance Low (12) was announced to have won Homecoming King of 2025! Friends and classmates alike erupted in applause as the camera focused on his celebration. “It was unexpected but I want to thank my friends and family for supporting me!” Lance remarks. “It will definitely be a highlight of my senior year.”
Later that night, the big football game began. Students, staff, and families packed the stands in preparation of the football homecoming game. Arriving in vivid colors to rep the theme of Rio de Janeiro, the stands emitted spirit, pride, and tradition; some core mustang values! YLHS band, dance co, and the cheer and song teams took over halftime, keeping the Rio de Janeiro theme by playing songs from the “Rio” movie soundtrack. One of the football games biggest moments came – the crowning of the Homecoming Queen. Senior Skylar Snyder (12) took center stage as students, family, and staff congratulated her. Smiling and waving, Skylar was clearly stunned and pleasantly surprised! “I didn’t expect it at all, but I’m so thankful and honored to be chosen as this year’s Homecoming Queen,” she said. “This will definitely be one of my most memorable high school experiences.” The football game then ended with a big win for the YLHS football team, kicking off the homecoming weekend to an amazing start.
From the rally to the big football game, ASB ensured that the Rio de Janeiro theme was delivered to precise execution and accuracy. The decorations and celebration were bold and bright, and seemingly full of life! Everyone came together to show off their school spirit and celebrate before heading out for the second dance of this school year.
