When it was first announced that the iconic musical Wicked was to be made into a movie, nobody knew what to expect. Some expected greatness, and they were not disappointed. Because of this, when the sequel was announced, people were ecstatic to see how they would interpret the original sequel, with the actors’ twist on it.

Since Wicked first came out in November of 2024, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have only grown closer as friends as they have been seen countless times together and have been open about their very closely tied friendship. In the first movie, their friendship made the movie so much better, so it makes you wonder how their now stronger bond is going to appear on screen. 

The official Wicked: For Good trailer was released on September 24, 2025, and it revealed a lot about the movie. We saw sneak peeks of what’s to come, and one of the clips showed Glinda getting married to Fiero, but the wedding was seemingly interrupted by the Wicked Witch of the West, who supposedly crashed the wedding with animals, according to Madam Morrible.

In Wicked, there are many scenes where we see a spark between Elphaba and Fiero, speculating that there was an attraction between them, but it is all confirmed in the trailer when we see Elphaba and Fiero kissing. In the movie, we are likely going to see how these two connect and realize that their differences have nothing to do with the fact that they are clearly in love or at least attracted to each other.

Pahal Shukla (10), a sophomore at Yorba Linda High School, explains, “When I first saw Elphaba and Fiero together, I could tell they had chemistry, and I knew that something was going to happen between them.” Pahal agrees that these two characters had a connection since their first scene together, so it wouldn’t be very surprising to see them finally unite in Wicked: For Good. 

In Wicked, we hear about the Wizard of Oz and how he came to Oz, using his powers to bring light to not only the Emerald City, but also to all of Oz. Aside from the telling of how the wizard arrived and read the grimoire, we do not receive much information about his powers, other than that he can grant people a wish.

In the trailer for Wicked: For Good, there is a scene where we see The Wicked Witch of the West flying on her broomstick through the clouds, and spelling out “our wizard lies.” This phrase leads us to think that there may be something the wizard is hiding, and there might be more to the story we don’t know about. Kaylee Medina (10) expresses her unease about the wizard by saying, “I always thought the wizard’s story was kind of suspicious. Like he just showed up out of nowhere in a balloon and was conveniently able to read the grimoire?”

Many people can agree with Kaylee’s opinion, since the wizard’s story is rather random and unexplained; we don’t get context on where he is from or why he came to Oz in the first place. A lot of his story was left open-ended, which tells us we should likely expect a plot twist from the wizard or at least more background on who he is and why he is here. 

With trailers, it is impossible to know with certainty what is to come in the movie, but they can certainly let us speculate about what we think will happen. Wicked: For Good is a long-awaited movie, so I believe I may speak for the entire Wicked fanbase when saying that we are all very excited for the sequel and cannot wait to see what the movie has in store for us. Will we see the long-awaited relationship between Elphaba and Fiero? Are secrets about the wizard going to be revealed? Is this movie worth spending money on? This movie definitely sounds like it will be worth your money.
