Go Greek is an authentic yogurt bar that not only has Greek yogurt but is also mainly recognized for its frozen yogurt. As of September 4th, Newport Beach has opened Go Greek as a new town staple (Go Greek). The store’s location has previously been opened in large areas like Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and even Miami, Florida. Now, local Orange County residents can enjoy this sweet treat that is just a short drive away. I recently visited the Newport Beach location, and it is safe to say I was satisfied. As expected, upon arrival, the line was wrapped around the store and even went out the door. Despite how many people were there, the service was efficient, and the line did not take as long as anticipated.
Newport Beach’s location was small, but simple. The self-serve frozen yogurt cups were placed on small Greek pillars, which gave an authentic ambiance to the place. The store colors are blue and white, which relate to Greek decor and colors to fit their aesthetic. One thing that stood out to me was that the flavors were displayed on digital screens rather than signs on the wall, like most frozen yogurt places. To me, Go Greek is an elevated frozen yogurt experience that anyone and everyone can enjoy. Kennedy Conrad (12) tells us that, “I’ve seen this place all over my For-You page on TikTok, and I can’t wait to find some time to go because it looks absolutely amazing. Hearing about your experience only makes me want to go even more”.
The store offers a variety of yogurt, smoothies, frozen yogurt, and their very own special “Greek Bowls”. When I visited, I tried their frozen yogurt, as it is their main item on their menu and is practically what they’re known for. Something special about this yogurt place is that its ingredients are sourced straight from Europe, which ultimately only provides a further original experience. Upon discovering this information, I wonder if their yogurt was healthier than that of other frozen yogurt places. To my discovery, their frozen yogurt does appear to be healthier. With lower levels of sugar, calories, and higher protein, it was evident that they value health, even in desserts. Greek yogurt has long been recognized for its high protein content, rich in B12, and beneficial for gut health (NYTimes). Mckenzi Reiter (12) shares her experience and explains, “This frozen yogurt place has to be the best one I have ever been to. The flavors were perfectly sweet and still had the Greek yogurt flavor in them, which I loved. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves frozen yogurt, it is a must-have”.
When I visited, some of the flavors they offered were chocolate, raspberry, strawberry, plain tart, and many more. I tried different flavors with my friends, like the chocolate, and it was delicious. But for my bowl, I decided to go with plain tart and raspberry. Immediately, you can tell the difference from regular frozen yogurt places. The raspberry was sweet, but not overly sugary, and still had the prominent tart flavor in it. The toppings that Go Greek offers are definitely different compared to places like Yogurtland. This is because the majority of their toppings include strawberries, kiwis, bananas, blueberries, and the list of fruits goes on. Of course, they still had regular frozen yogurt toppings like mochis, popping boba pearls, and chocolate chips.
One of the key differences I noticed from Go Greek was their pricing. Oftentimes, a bowl of frozen yogurt is around $7, but at Go Greek, a small bowl with a couple of toppings came out to be around $12. It is a bit expensive for a frozen yogurt bowl, but when taking into account the deliciousness, plus the benefits it can offer, and the immaculate toppings, it makes it hard not to want to pay a little extra for some amazing-tasting yogurt.
Overall, my experience at Go Greek was amazing. I could not recommend this place enough to any frozen yogurt lovers. Whether you are on a date, on a walk with friends, or just in the area, I think everyone should go at least once.
