As football season continues, the games are not only about touchdowns and wins but also tradition and spirit in the bleachers on Friday nights. This fall, Yorba Linda High School has an exciting lineup of themes for both home and away games. Each game has a specific dress code in order to show your support and spirit as a student at Yorba Linda. Here are the upcoming games and their themes.
October 3: USA theme (Yorba Linda versus Villa Park – Away Game)
USA is one of the most iconic themes for football games. Since these are also our school colors, it is a great way to show double the spirit. Some outfit ideas include a classic look such as blue jeans and a red or white T-shirt. Any Yorba Linda jerseys or red, white, and blue jerseys would work as well. For accessories, you can use face paint to create stars or stripes. Safiya Sloan (12) expresses, “My favorite football theme is USA because I get to have fun with my outfits.”
October 10: Men in Black (Yorba Linda versus San Juan Hills – Away Game)
An outfit for this game can be basic, black jeans and a black T-shirt. Black sunglasses can play into the “Men in Black” feel as well as wearing a blazer or a button down for a true “Men in Black” costume.
October 17: Homecoming Game – Rio de Janeiro (Yorba Linda versus Tesoro – Home Game)
Homecoming is also the best football game of the season, and Rio de Janeiro is a theme inspired by Brazil’s famous carnival, which is about color, joy, and festivity. Some outfit ideas include bright colors like yellow, green, blue, and red. Even a bright sundress or shorts or a colorful jersey are perfect choices. These can also include feathered headbands, beads, and even a glitter face paint to fit the theme. Olivia Teran (12) says, “I am super excited for this theme because I love the movie Rio and the colors of the costumes they wear.”
October 24: Friday Night lights (Yorba Linda versus Newport Harbor – Away Game)
This theme includes neon and bright colors. Neon, green, pink, orange, or yellow shirts and shorts are typically what students wear to these games. For accessories, you should wear glow sticks, LED necklaces, or neon face paint. Lots of people like to coordinate with friends, so each person wears a different neon color.
October 30: Legally Pink (Yorba Linda versus Corona Del Mar – Home Game)
This game calls for a pink out. This includes white tees, sweatshirts, and hats that are simple but on theme. To be more stylish, you can wear a pink dress or skirt paired with sneakers. Accessories usually include pink ribbons, wristbands, and face paint.
By leaning into the football game themes, students become more involved in the game and show their spirit as our players take home wins for Yorba Linda.
