This year’s prom, “A Night in Mykonos,” was nothing short of a blast. The elegant Isles of Greece were transported down in AV Irvine, Orange County, leaving a night full of unforgettable memories. The venue featured a Mediterranean-inspired theme, with blue and white decorations that perfectly captured the essence of Mykonos. As soon as students arrived, the energy and vibes were high and radiating. Everyone brought on their best gear, long, flowing dresses for the girls and pristine suits and ties for the guys.
Before the dance, many students arrived at the beautiful backdrop at Bill Barber Memorial Park for the perfect photo shoot. Luke Moyer (11) describes the number of familiar faces he saw at the park: “I feel like I saw at least half of Yorba Linda’s upperclassmen at Bill Barber. I guess everyone had the same idea and took advantage of its perfect picturesque setting.” After photos, students began their night with dinners around Newport Beach or near Irvine Spectrum. McKenzi Reiter (11) describes her dinner at Javiers: “My friends and I all shared amazing meals down at Javiers in Newport. We had tacos, enchiladas, and ceviche, and many rounds of pina coladas. We were all eager with excitement for our night at prom, stuffing our stomachs in a hurry.”
Inside AV Irvine, the party kicked off with a DJ who knew exactly how to keep us students hype. Classic hits like “You Belong With Me” by Taylor Swift and “Sexyback” by Justin Timberlake had the crowd singing and dancing their hearts out all night. It didn’t take long before the dance floor was packed as hit after hit brought everyone together. The seniors especially celebrated their last big night as best as they could, singing at the top of their lungs, trying to capture the beauty of one of their last moments in high school. Maya Tsegaye (12) says, “I couldn’t have had a better night, spending unforgettable moments with my best friends out on the dance floor. Prom was a night that will go down in history, a memory I can look back on and smile.”
Besides the music and dancing, the venue had plenty of other additions that students enjoyed throughout their evenings. There was a print photo booth that had several lines out the door, as students were eager to take fun candid shots with their friends. The casino tables were a big hit for the guys, where they tried their luck at blackjack and other classic games. The dessert bar and beverage station was also a hit, which had a variety of sweet treats and refreshing drinks, where students were able to refuel in between songs.
To wrap it up, this night in Mykonos was more than just a dance, but an unforgettable night with unforgettable memories. It was the perfect treat for current juniors and a bittersweet sendoff to four years of high school for the seniors. Prom was the epitome of how a well-planned night can bring so many people together.
