2025 can be classified as an encapsulation of Neon’s biggest hits and creative breakthroughs. The production company has delved into the most intricate film genres that require an extensive degree of depth and strategy. The original Neon romantic comedy-drama, “Anora”, earned five Academy Awards at this year’s Oscars ceremony: Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Picture, and Best Film Editing (BBC). Such a huge success presents a promising future for the production company as it continues expanding its progress within the horror genre while simultaneously experimenting with dark comedy. Several 2025 Neon projects await us, keeping horror fanatics, romance fans, and science-fiction geeks on their toes!
Following the release of Neon’s “Long Legs”, Director Osgood Perkins further expresses his affinity for extreme gore and comedic horror by unveiling his newest project, “The Monkey”. The film stars Eljiah Wood, Theo James, and Tatiana Maslany. “The Monkey” entails twin brothers who encounter a cursed monkey toy that is the culprit for a series of horrific deaths. After 25 years, the toy resumes its killing spree and forces the siblings to determine the root cause of these offenses. The movie was heavily inspired by Stephen King’s 1980 short story titled the same name (IMDb). Samuel Kent (11) says, “I did not expect to enjoy this film as much as I actually did. Neon’s production team has been on top of it lately.”
“The Actor” has recently stepped foot in theaters on March 14th and showcases Gemma Chan, who you may recognize from the 2018 romantic comedy “Crazy Rich Asians”, and André Holland of 2016’s “Moonlight” as the two main characters. Holland plays the role of a recovering actor, Paul Cole, who is suffering memory loss from an assault in Ohio. He finds himself in a very mysterious town and is forced to piece together his past (IMDb). The film possesses the most thrilling details and manages to tug at the heartstrings of its viewers. Cinematographer Joe Passarelli beautifully intertwines each visual frame to tell a heartbreaking story.
A Neon film that has yet to arrive in theaters will make its highly-anticipated debut this August! The movie stars countryside husband and wife, Alison Brie and Dave Franco, who experience supernatural encounters. Hasti Khodabandehlou (11) says, “I love when real-life couples take on such unconventional concepts. That’s when you know it’s going to be good.” Neon carefully fuses the concept of body horror, which has grown in popularity since the release of “The Substance”, and romantic angst. The film’s trailer depicts a string of brief supernatural horrors accompanied by the couple’s strange relationship. Viewers have already formulated detailed predictions succeeding the ending scene of the trailer, which zoomed into the couple’s eyelashes as they began to connect and form a collective string (IMDb).
Every single one of Neon’s productions is nothing short of exceptional. As a fellow horror fan, the year of 2025 is undoubtedly a creative breakthrough in terms of both thriller and dark comedy projects. I have witnessed some of – what I consider – my favorite films that will permanently leave their mark, both in the box office and in the history of cinema.
