In the evolving world of the hype on health and wellness trends, Coconut Cult and sea moss have been two of the most popular and talked-about superfoods. They claim to promise improved gut health, glowing skin, and boosted energy and have taken over the media. Apps like TikTok, Pinterest, and Instagram have all been raving about these items, but what exactly is the hype all about?
Coconut Cult is a brand known for its probiotic coconut yogurt that is made from organic coconut cream and probiotic inclusions. Differing from most yogurts, each serving contains billions of live bacteria that claim to replenish one’s gut and improve digestive health. Coconut Cult’s high probiotic content supports digestion, reduces bloating, and improves the body’s absorption of nutrients. For those lactose intolerant, this brand is an ideal dairy-free alternative, or for those looking for plant-based options. As someone who is a health-conscious consumer, this yogurt’s clean ingredients were appealing. Miali Riggio (11) states, “After trying the coconut cult for just about a week, I noticed a huge difference in my bloating. I also felt more energized and awake during the day.” The only downside to Riggio’s experience was its pricing. With tax, each jar, containing eight servings, is over ten dollars; however, due to its ingredients and fermentation process, its hefty price tag is understandable.
The other viral trend circulating the media is sea moss. Sea moss is a type of red algae that has been used for centuries in the Caribbean and Irish cultures (Pure Sea Moss UK). With its rich minerals, it is now widely available in a jelly-like consistency or capsule that can be added to smoothies or even eaten alone. Sea moss is highly nutrient-dense as it contains 92 of the 102 minerals that the human body needs, which is crucial for metabolism. Its rich vitamins A, E, and K, along with its natural iodine content, all assist in clearing one’s skin and gut. Sea moss also acts as a prebiotic, providing food for all of the good bacteria in one’s gut. Similar to the Coconut Cult, sea moss is quite expensive due to its labor-intensive harvesting process, ranging from thirty to forty dollars.
Is the hype justified? Both Coconut Cult and sea moss offer extreme health benefits. After taking a trip to my local Sprouts, I purchased and reviewed both of these superfoods with high expectations. I can proudly say that these both live up to their standards and promised assets. In the mornings, I am less bloated, and throughout the day, I feel less drowsy after sitting through all of my classes. Even after these two weeks, I see a notable difference in my skin as it isn’t as textured and has reduced redness and inflammation. The only downside to these foods is their pricing, as my total cost for the two was almost $45. Coincidingly, Calista Nguyen (11) has also seen many benefits in her gut and skin health: “Ever since trying the sea moss and Coconut Cult together, I have seen a big change in the clearness of my skin and my body’s energy levels.” If you’re seeking to invest in your gut health and don’t mind spending extra, Coconut Cult and sea moss are an ideal addition to include in your diet.
