The people in Gaza are celebrating a big step towards their long desired peace: The Gaza Ceasefire!! This isn’t an official claim that the war is over and that the whole plan will go through, it is a huge step. The whole goal is divided among four phases which we will further examine. Although this solution is only temporary, it should help the Palestinians on their road to recovery.
Before digging into the problem, it is important to know the history and events of this war. Student It all started in the early 20th century when both ethnic groups, Jews and Arabs, claimed the piece of land of Palestine. This led to tensions and displacement of many people. The so called and known Gaza Strip was at first in control by Egypt but after a war, Israel had it under control. Now, Gaza Strip is governed by Hamas while the West Bank is controlled by the Palestinians. Since 2007, there has been non stop conflict in between the two groups, even multiple wars which have presented problems of suffering, humanitarian conditions, and murder.
Picture living everyday with the fear that you could get killed or that your home could be destroyed. Worrying about hwo you will put food on the table or how your loved ones sickness can be treated. Having to get over trauma that has significantly piled up day after day. Anxiously praying for answers from the government and powerful powers. Would you like losing a loved one weekly or even daily? All these scenarios are part of the unimaginable suffering that these people have to do through and will have to carry their traumatic experiences for the rest of their lives. When telling student Svea Hazlett (11) about this topic she shared, “ .”
Thankfully, the peoples prayers have been answered. People in Gaza were filled with happiness when they heard the news. Saying things such as, “I can finally take off this helmet and vest which have become part of my body.” On the other hand, in Israel there’s has been protest against it. The goal is to end the war permanently, but it still needs to be a sign off by the Israeli government. The deal is structured in three stages and it’s all due to start in January 19. Everything will be extremely hard considering 2 million people have been displaced. Stage one is supposed to be six weeks. It’s the release of 33 Israel captives and in return Israel release Palestinian prisoners and Israel will partially withdraw troops from Gaza. During this negotiations for stage two will happen. During stage two, there will be a release of remaining living captives, and there will be more Palestinian prisoners freed, and Israel will fully withdraw forces from Gaza. Stage three consist of working out a long-term reconstruction plan for Gaza. Phase 2, and phase 3 are still not sure it is all based upon if things are made official and how stage one goes.
Everyday challenges people face are famine, starvation, lack of food, lack of medical attention. Internationally people are praying for the end of this war and for this agreement to work out. There are many different ways of helping such as donating and raising awareness. Not only is this agreement needed politically, but the people need it for the sake and wellbeing of their lives.
