YLHS’s Welcome Back Dance was a success, and the majority of students had fun dressing up, dancing, singing, and playing games.

August 29th initiated the beginning of PYLUSD’s 2023-2024 school year and Yorba Linda High School students were welcomed back by the traditional crimson, navy blue, and silver posters lining the school and cheerleaders at the entrances. Freshmen faced the next new chapter in their lives, sophomores and juniors fell into a returning routine, and seniors either celebrated or dreaded the start of their last year of high school. One of this year’s freshmen, Eric Gao (9), states that on the first day, he was “…very excited to start high school” and that “YLHS had a very welcoming environment with the support of Link Crew helping everyone navigate the school.”

A few events were put on as well, including the Inaugural Flag Football game, multiple sports competitions, and the Welcome Back Dance hosted by ASB. As the weeks moved by, YLHS pride stayed strong with spirit days and occasional rallies. Here is an in-depth recap of the first few weeks of school, along with updates on upcoming events and a reminder to run with the stampede!

On September 8th, students attended the Welcome Back Dance to kick-start the school year with fun games, catchy music, and creative costumes. Yorba Linda High School’s first dance was certainly a success and made the second week all the more lively. Some student attendees dressed up as Barbie and Raquelle, Mario and Luigi, and fairies. Although the night started out slow, the dance floor gradually filled up with students dancing and singing along to the DJ’s music. Everyone also enjoyed playing games, such as bean bag toss and Connect Four. ASB did a spectacular job of planning this event and will be holding several exciting events in the future.

During the first weeks of school, YLHS students supported the sports teams by attending their games. The football team in particular has had multiple themed games, including USA, Animal Party, and Film Night Thursday. The Mustang spirit ran wild as everyone cheered in the stands and showed encouragement for the teams. Upcoming competitions will be held throughout the football season with various spirit wear themes. Dress up in jerseys (9/29), Barbie fashion (10/6), business attire (10/13), neon (10/20), and Halloween costumes (10/27). Continue to show support for Women’s tennis and volleyball, Men’s water polo, and more.

The first roaming rally of the year occurred on September 15th to reveal this year’s homecoming theme, “Out of This World”, which will have games, refreshments, and music. Preparation for the homecoming dance has begun, with outfit shopping, friend group planning, and proposals. The Wrangler is selling homecoming proposal posters for $10 each; they are customizable and can be used to ask out friends, significant others, and that special someone. Fill out this HOCO Proposal Google Form to buy a poster and support The Wrangler.

Although a month of school has already passed, it is essential to keep the same spirited mindset as at the beginning of the year. Remember to not get burnt out, have fun every once in a while, stay positive, and focus on reaching your goals.
