The City of the Stars Takes On New York!
The award-winning film, “La La Land”, is headed to Broadway.

The Oscar-winning film La La Land, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, indeed does have it all. From a magnificent soundtrack, beautiful cinematography, and a heart-throbbing storyline, it feels almost impossible not to fall absolutely in love with this incredible piece of art.
La La Land follows the story of Mia and Sebastian, two unlikely lovers who share a desire to follow their dreams. Viewers get the chance to enjoy watching this wonderfully crafted love story unfold into a tear-jerking ending. Spoiler Alert! In the end, Mia and Sebastian have to turn their separate ways to achieve their dreams; The classic ‘right person, wrong time.’
The film is a fan favorite, especially among musical theater lovers. Despite being released years ago, La La Land is still popular and regaining momentum in 2023.
Recently, it was announced by Broadway that La La Land would become a stage musical. This ignited a fire in many fans as musical adaptations typically add more to the story, whether it be through new songs, new characters, or more. Leilah Huttner (10) is very involved in musical theatre here at YLHS and is overwhelmed with excitement for the Broadway adaptation of the musical. She shared, “La La Land is my favorite movie of all time, and as a music lover, I cannot wait to see the new take on the story.”

Many may wonder why La La Land remains so relevant today; my answer is that it feels so real. Since Mia and Sebastian do not end up together, the story feels very well-developed and real. Aubrey Esparza (11) stated, “La La Land is so perfectly crafted and has such a gorgeous color scheme.” Aubrey also loves how it demonstrates the reality of life since it does not have a happy ending.”
Finally, another benefit to the film’s success is that the movie was just recently added to Netflix, one of the most popular streaming services. This gave so many such easy access to watch the film and fall in love with it even after years since it was released, myself included.
Overall, La La Land is an incredible film adored by many. It’s easy to see why the film has recently gained more popularity. In the words of Leilah Huttner (10), “We need to live more, laugh more, and La La Land more.”
