With Spring Break right around the corner, many seniors are contemplating where to go. As the last Spring Break of their high school career, many seniors want to go on trips together to make the best out of the time they have left with their friends. If you are still deciding where to go, that probably means your plans are a bit last minute. Not to worry, here are some fun and inexpensive last-minute senior break trips!

When I think of Spring Break trips, the first thing that comes to mind is a road trip. Having access to a variety of different biomes, California is a perfect location for a road trip. You can go to the beach, the mountains, the redwoods, or national parks. The main cost of a road trip is gas, which is currently quite expensive. However, if multiple people go on this trip, gas prices can be split among the group, bringing down the price per person. As for staying anywhere overnight, you can sleep in your car or even bring a tent and stop at campsites to stay the night. A bunch of snacks, games, books, blankets, and a perfect playlist are all you need for a successful road trip!

If you are looking for a more local excursion, Catalina is a beautiful island that is just a boat ride away. The two main boats that go to Catalina, the Catalina Express and the Catalina Flyer, depart from either Newport Beach or Long Beach. Tickets are typically under $100 and provide access to days worth of fun on a gorgeous island. Once in Catalina, you can go snorkeling, shop at the small boutiques, take a boat around the island, go on hikes, and even zip line. These activities are a bit expensive, but just walking around the island and going in the water is enough to make a day’s worth of fun. You can stay for just a day or make it an overnight trip.

I spend time in downtown San Diego because there are many activities or go to Palm Springs to shop and walk around.

Maybe multiple-day trips aren’t what you are looking for. Luckily, there are many local excursions that can make for an eventful day. L.A. has many museums and exhibits like the Getty, the National History Museum of Los Angeles, and the California Science Center. There is also an Exposition Park Rose Garden that should be in full bloom after our recent rain showers. San Diego is also a charming city that is only about a 2-hour drive away. There, you can watch a baseball game at Petco Park, hang out at La Jolla Cove, or spend the day in Old Town San Diego. As one of the nicest zoos in the country, the San Diego Zoo is a great place to spend the day looking at animals you may have never seen before. Jenna Roncevich (12) describes her ideal spring break outing where she “spends time in downtown San Diego because there are many activities or go to Palm Springs to shop and walk around.”

Whether you want to stay close or take a multiple-day trip, there are many options for seniors to have an amazing senior trip, making lifelong memories with your friends to look back on after graduation!
