Tiktok is responsible for the almost instantaneous transformation of information. Within seven seconds, or less, ideas, information, and innovations can be shared throughout the world, reaching millions through a quick and simple medium. This lightning-speed communication comes with some very clear-cut benefits and disadvantages. One example of both can be identified in the powerful trends that come and go through Tiktok.

In less than a day, over 100 million people have the potential to see a particular video on Tiktok. Furthermore, the platform offers methods to save, share, and recreate each clip, so the presence of a particular video or creator is automatically magnified. Tiktok “stars” with hundreds of millions of followers have the power to influence the masses through their status on the app, and when particular brands are commonly endorsed, their products subconsciously rise to a trend.

Throughout the years, Tiktok has been responsible for several trendy brands and objects for their particular time period. Hydroflasks and scrunchies, for example, were products that gained attention through the social media app, VSCO, but reached astronomical prominence after Tiktok features. Similarly, corset tops, a style of women’s blouse that features a corset-like shape, were commonly purchased throughout their time in the sun on Tiktok. “High schoolers buy a lot of products a result of Tiktok,” lamented Laila Collie (12).

So far, in 2023, Tiktok can be named responsible for the newfound popularity of three particular products: Stanley Cups, Ugg Tasman Slippers, and Bloom Nutrition Greens and Superfoods powder.

Stanley Cups are not a new product. In fact, the Stanley Cup Water Bottle was first invented in the year 1913, when Inventor William Stanley ventured to create an insulated cup for fighter pilots flying for the United States in World War I. Since then, the famous water bottles have come a long way, and their new large, colored, and user-friendly design makes them an instant bestseller. These cups rose to prominence at the end of 2022 but really began to shine at the start of this year. They are most commonly utilized by young women, and it is difficult to avoid spotting one on a desk at almost every high school and college classroom.

Similarly, Ugg Tasman slippers have also been around for a hot minute. It seems as though Ugg boots have experienced an abnormal trending pattern throughout the years. Extremely popular in the early 200s, Ugg boots received mass backlash around 2012 when there were allegations made regarding the process of obtaining materials to make Uggs. Regardless, Ugg boots have been a staple of American culture for the past 30 years; however, the brand, Ugg, has always been popular for one product in particular–their boots. The Tasman slippers are the first non-boot product to gain prominence, and they have gained more prominence in the matter of a month than many other products have experienced in their whole existence. This short slipper comes in a variety of colors, has colored stitching on the bottom, and has a hard, durable sole on the bottom. They have been sold out for the past several weeks on almost all platforms.

Bloom Nutrition Greens & Superfoods have only recently been invented and gained recognition just in the past few months. They serve as a morning supplement to “support gut health and digestion, reduce bloating, support immune function, and increase energy levels” (healthline.com). While the smallest package size starts at just over forty dollars, they remain immensely popular, and fitness gurus and non-fitness gurus alike are using them for their many health benefits.
