The Golden Globe Awards trophies are ready to be passed out to category winners.

While quarantine had led many of us to binge the television shows or occasional movies of the past year, the Golden Globe Awards allow for the recognition of the individuals involved in the production of these shows and films. While some film awards are a part of this event, the majority of awards are given to the best television series or limited series of 2020. Occurring on February 28th, 2021 at 5 pm-8 pm PT, the 78th Golden Globe Awards will be hosted by actresses Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. To promote social distancing, the event will be held virtually and nominees will be broadcasted from their own homes. Awards will also be delivered to category winners at their homes. And while the atmosphere of the event will be altered due to it being held virtually, the excitement of our favorite shows or films being recognized for their achievements remains.

The nominees for the awards categories and special award winners have been released. For the special awards that will be presented at the event, the Cecil B. DeMille Award will be given to actress Jane Fonda. This award is given to an individual for their exceptional contributions to the entertainment world. The Carol Burnett Award, presented to an individual with incredible contributions to television, will be given to television writer and producer Norman Lear. And for the awards nominees, I will list some of the most popular categories (cnn.com):

While this list does not include all categories that will be presented at the awards ceremony, the nominations above are some of the most anticipated awards. This awards ceremony allows us all to appreciate the immense work and effort needed to create a series or film. Hours and hours of hard work result in a piece of art that can provide happiness and comfort. Thus, many Mustangs who are avid movie watchers and series bingers anticipate this event. For example, Vaani Gandhi (12) is “hopeful that [her] favorite movie, Soul, will win the Golden Globe for the category of ‘Best Motion Picture’ this year.” While many of us may see our favorite series or film in the categories above, we must tune into the Golden Globes Awards to discover which nominee will win their category. And while the awards ceremony will look a little different this year, the possibility of seeing our favorite series, film, actor, or actress receive recognition for their performance will result in much excitement.
