Finally, the time we have all waited for… Basketball Season!

This year our Mustang basketball teams are looking to dominate in the new Century League; Esperanza, Canyon, Brea, Foothill, El Modena, and Villa Park are some times that constitute this league. Although the competition will be tougher this year, our teams have been and are continuing to condition and practice for countless hours to surpass our opponents’ skill level.

Just recently, the Men’s Basketball Program hosted their annual Mustang Madness. Mustang Madness is a school spirit rally that encourages students to support our players this season. Coach Pietsch, the Head Varsity Men’s coach, along with JV Coach Hobson and Frosh/Soph Coach Walls, showcased their players as they scrimmaged in front of the audience of students.

This year, however, there was a noteworthy change made to the event: the Women’s Basketball Program was not included in Mustang Madness. Even though the Women’s basketball teams were not included, Coach Ikemoto, Coach Burns, and Coach Galvan still hosted an Alumni game, where Varsity competed against former Mustang players.  According to Melanie Maggi (12), it “was fun having our old teammates come back and play against us.”

With these spirited events, both basketball programs hope to encourage the student body, also known as “The Stable”, to be a part of the program and to attend the upcoming games. Currently, Men’s Basketball is competing  in the Godinez Tournament , while  Women’s Basketball is competing in the South Coast Classic and Woodbridge Tournament.

Season will begin in January! Please come out and support your Mustang athletes!
