As women’s soccer continues this season, YLHS cheers this program on, hoping to achieve victory.

The freshman-sophmore team is currently first place this season, led by coach, Naomi Hernandez (Staff). This is Hernandez’s second year coaching our frosh team, succeeding in two consecutive years of first place in league. Frosh player, Grace Khamo (9), comments, “season has been a lot of fun so far. We all have worked so hard and hope we win league this year.” Recently, the frosh team dominated the second place team, Villa Park, in a 4-1 game, securing their place on top.

This year’s junior-varsity team, led by coach Erika Schmaltz (Staff), is in second place, but is determined to come out on top. Throughout this season, YLHS’s junior-varsity players work their hardest at every game and practice. This year’s captains, Kelsey Campbell (10) and Makenna Kaprelyan (10), continue to encourage their team to fight for victory, striving for first place. Although suffering an injury prior to this season, JV Captain Kelsey Campbell (10) continues to show support for her team by attending every match and cheering from the sideline. This year’s team has been working hard and has greatly improved throughout this soccer season.

Head coach, Alex Flor (Staff), has been part of the soccer program for 3 consecutive years, and currently the varsity team is in second place behind the Villa Park Spartans. These varsity players train daily, hoping to win league and qualify for CIF. Varsity player, Lauren Farer (10), adds on, “this season has been incredible so far, and although we’re not in first, we have played amazing games and really come together as a team.” These 24 amazing players have truly united as a team throughout this season, strengthening their team bond and creating everlasting friendships. While perfecting their skills and bonding, the Varsity Women’s team has grown during this season, working almost every day of the week.

The goal of YLHS Women’s Soccer Team is to enrich the lives of these players through soccer and to help flourish new legacies each season. Many of the senior players this year have committed to colleges, making soccer a part of the next chapter of their lives. It is clear to see this program working hard to develop players with character and improve throughout this season.

These three teams are a great representation of Yorba Linda High School’s sports, displaying teamwork, dedication to their sport, and motivation. YLHS will continue to come out and support these teams as they finish their season strong.
