Whether it is the latest fashion statement or viral videos, Yorba Linda High Schools students make sure to keep up with the trend.

Memes:

Obama Portrait memes: Obama revealed his presidential portrait by Kehinde Wiley in the month of February. Even with such a  historic portrait, internet users immediately began working on the painting to create one of 2018’s viral memes. The first meme is a scene from the TV series, The Simpsons, when Homer Simpson recedes into the bushes. The second picture is simply Obama spying on the public hidden by the bushes from the portrait. Finally, the third meme has former White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, hiding to avoid questions from the press.

2018 Oscars: Viewers couldn’t help notice all the memes following the 2018 Oscars. Of the several celebrities that participated in the Oscars, Jennifer Garner’s emotional picture captured much attention. People put in captions such as: “when you’re having a good time and realize you forgot to thaw the chicken for your mama,” or “what realization did Jennifer Garner just come to?”  Including Jennifer Garner, Meryl Streep, an American actress, was another victim to the observant eyes of memers. Meryl Streep’s attire for the 2018 Oscars made the actress look like the fairy godmother from Shrek 2.

 

Fashion:

Brand Logos – Brand Logos such as Champion, Adidas, Bathing Ape, The North Face, and Tommy Hilfiger are currently very trendy right now. Due to several celebrities including Kanye West and Gigi Hadid that rocked a very Hollywood street styled attire, students of Yorba Linda High School also jumped onto the bandwagon and began dressing up in a similar matter.

 

Shows:

Black Mirror: Nowadays, Netflix has been capturing many teenagers’ attention with their captivating shows “Stranger Things” and “Black Mirror”. “Black Mirror” is a series of films that explore a very twisted/sci-fi future for humanity. Each episode is unique in its own way and proves to fascinate viewers. Of the episodes that are currently out, Forbes ranked the top ten best episodes. The top three were San Junipero, Be Right Back, and Fifteen Million Merits.

The Office: “The Office” is another show that students are binge-watching today. People can’t get enough of these hilarious office workers including John Krasinski and Steve Carell. The show takes place in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and documents a typical workday of the main character, Michael Scott who is the manager of a paper company called Dunder Mifflin. Initially, the Office made its debut during 2005, yet is still very popular today.

Bachelor: Although the seasons of “The Bachelor” is no new business, “The Bachelor” is still a hot topic for conversation. Especially after the finale that came out this month, viewers were stunned. Arie, the bachelor, after debating between two candidates, Becca and Lauren, finally gave the last rose to Becca. Yet, to the viewers’ surprise, Arie had a change of heart and decided to break his marriage with Becca to get with Lauren. This stunning series of events, caused “The Bachelor” to trend overnight.

 

Movies:

Black Panther: SPOILER ALERT! “Black Panther” was released on February 16, 2018 in theaters. The movie takes place in an advanced African Nation where T’Challa is the King of Wakanda. However, a problem arises when a childhood victim of T’Challa’s father’s mistake comes to Wakanda for revenge. Due to the amazing cinematography and action-packed plot, the “Black Panther” movie franchise has been attracting several fans all over the world.

A Wrinkle in Time: Disney’s newest released movie,” A Wrinkle in Time”, hit box office on March 9 of 2018. Viewers were excited to see the latest Disney movie and the film adaptation of the popular novel by Madeleine L’Engle. The film features famous actor and actresses including Oprah Winfrey, Chris Pine, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling. Amber Li (11) is “excited to watch ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ over the weekend.

 

Gossip:

Kylie Jenner’s Pregnancy: The Kardashians following their show, “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” became one of the most influential families of today’s era. As a result, when social media celebrity, Kylie Jenner, went absent on Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter, fans became suspicious. Finds out, Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott were having a baby! The baby was revealed in a Youtube video to be a girl. The video talks about Kylie’s feelings, Travis Scott and his family’s reactions, a letter from Kylie’s best friends, etc…

 

News:

Gun policy: Speaking on a more serious topic, gun policy has become a heated debate following the Florida Parkland shooting. In an attempt not to offend anybody, there will be no content on whether guns should be illegal or not. Still, the gun policy drove many to wonder whether guns should be allowed in the US. Not to mention, called for action to the matter at hand.
