Who better to review young adult books than young adults themselves? Students in grades 9 through 12 were interviewed on what their favorite books are and their favorites that have been a requirement for school.

Jessica Lane(11), states she loves reading, especially when she finds a good book that is interesting. “My favorite book is The Last Song because it tells a great story, and [it] makes me want to know what happens next. A book [that] I enjoyed reading in school was To Kill a Mockingbird because it was an exciting read. I recommend [To Kill a Mockingbird] because it’s good to know how times have changed.”

Melody Tang(9), states “Yes! Of Course I love to read! My favorite book is Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper. Even though I’ve read so many books, it probably makes it to my top 10 because of the feelings it gave me by describing the hardships of a girl who only wanted to be understood.” Touching Spirit Bear is one of her favorites that she has read in school. She says it shows how sheltered society is today by all the “ew’s” she heard at the gory parts. She recommends these books because she loved them, and she wants to share that love with other students.

As the years progress, more and more teenagers are becoming interested in young adult books. J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series was and still is one of the most popular among young readers. John Green had produced many books including Looking For Alaska, Paper Towns, and The Fault in Our Stars. If I Stay by Gayle Forman, a New York Times Bestseller, is now a major motion picture. The first book for the Twilight Saga was released back in 2008 along with the first book for The Hunger Games. The Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth is one of the newest among teens. Many of these books are Bestsellers and have been made into movies; in fact, some are in the process of becoming major motion pictures.
