The time of year has finally come; May 21, starting at 8 pm, Billboard had their annual music     awards featuring the top hits of  this year, and of many remarkable figures that impacted the music industry. The event started with Nicki Minaj as she performed; “No Frauds” with Lil Wayne, “Light my Body Up,” and “Swalla” with Jason Derulo. Starting with “No Frauds,” Nicki Minaj came on stage wearing a gas mask and a black leather bodysuit guarded by a group of male dancers as they performed a powerful, yet sexy dance routine. As the beat was fading, Jason Derulo came out with his recent single, “Swalla,” and concluded the opening performances. Not only Nicki Minaj and Jason Derulo, but Camila Cabello had a striking performance at the Billboard music awards as well. Not to mention, it was her first debut stage as a single artist with her newest single,” Crying in Club.” Following was the performances of Julia Michaels who sang “Issues,” Chainsmokers, Ed Sheeran with his “Castle on the Hill,” and Miley Cyrus’ touching performance with “Malibu.” Other artists include Lorde, Sam Hunt, Imagine Dragons, Drake, Halsey,a collab between John Legend and Florida Georgia Line, and the iconic Cher. Yet, the best performance that many people agree with was Celine DIon’s, “My Heart will Go On.” This song was performed by Celine Dion as a 20th anniversary of the movie, Titanic. Throughout the whole ceremony, Ludacris and Vanessa Hudgens were an amazing host, with Vanessa Hudgens even rapping a verse by Nicki Minaj. Safia Khan (10) said, “The BBMAS was so fun to watch, especially watching some of my favorite artist performing on stage.”

As for awards, one can for sure say that this awards ceremony was a “Drake” sort of night. In other words, Drake won 13 awards including Artist of the Year and Top Male Artist. With all these awards, Drake broke the record for most wins in one year breaking Adele’s 12 awards record of 2012. As for other artists, Beyonce and Twenty One Pilots won five awards, Chainsmokers featuring Halsey won three awards, Blake Shelton, Zayn and Justin Timberlake all won one award. Even, the Billboard Music Awards marked a huge accomplishment for the K-Pop world. BTS aka Bangtan Boys, a Kpop group that is becoming well known for their synchronized dance moves and good looking visuals, have achieved what no other Kpop groups have ever accomplished. They won the Top Social Artist award in the American music industry beating Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, and even Arianna Grande. All in all, the Billboard Music Ceremony recognized the now and the past figures that are changing the music world.
