Every year, people all around the world celebrate the end of 365 days and the hopeful beginning of the new year. The year 2016 was by far full of major accomplishments and failures especially in the entertainment industry. To start, Beyonce’s abrupt release of the  Lemonade album caused fans to go wild. Starting from songs like Formation and Hold up, Beyonce caused everybody to ask “Who is Becky with the good hair?” Melody Saba(10) recommends Beyonce as the singer who stood out the most in 2016 “because her new album was really good”.  Not to mention, Closer by Chainsmokers featuring Halsey hit number one on top 100 of Billboard and passed a billion views on Youtube. Other top songs that created 2016 an amazing year includes Work by Rihanna featuring Drake, Starboy by The Weekend, DJ Snake Let Me Love You ft. Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande’s Side to Side, 7 Years by Lukas Graham, Fifth Harmony’s Work from Home, and finally Shawn Mendes’ Stitches.

Other than amazing songs, 2016 was clearly a year of drama. Including the presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald trump, break up of Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris, shade between Kylie Jenner and Blac Chyna,  break up of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, and the emotional win of The Cubs in the World Series Championships. Meanwhile, USA had an amazing result in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Forty-six gold medals, thirty- seven silver medals, and thirty- eight bronze medals! Kylie Jenner, also, finally released her Kylie Cosmetics! That features her most beloved matte lip kits, Kyshadow, and lip glosses. People had to be waitlisted in a long line of other fans just begging to get a hold on the trendy products. To finish the year, Mariah Carey caught lip syncing also trended on social media. During one of the New Year’s Eve performances in New York, Mariah Carey was not only caught lip syncing, but didn’t even sing certain portions of the song.

Equally important, there were a couple of movies that really shined in 2016. One example, is the movie Arrival. A science fiction, thriller movie about 12 strange spacecraft that comes to earth from outer space. Another movie is Captain America Civil War. This movie had high expectations and exceeded those high expectations. Captain America Civil War is a science fiction, action film based on American superhero Captain America. Not to mention, Star Wars Rogue One was also a very amazing film. This film was action packed, funny, sad, basically the whole package. Finally and not least, the musical film  La La Land. La La Land stars major Hollywood actors and actresses including Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in a romantic musical masterpiece.

As a final point, one can not write a recap of 2016 without writing about the many trends and challenges. To start off, the dab. Everyone has been dabbing left and right on Youtube, Instagram, Snapchat, in the classroom, at work, basically it’s everywhere. Honestly, 2016 wouldn’t be 2016 without the dab. Similarly, juju on the beat is also a trend that has risen towards the end of 2016. Juju on the beat has a funky beat with a eye catcher choreography that makes everyone want to learn the dance. Not to mention, Pokemon Go was a huge hit and miss of 2016. Pokemon Go got everybody walking outside looking for virtual pokemons, but as quickly as this trend rose it also died very quickly. In addition, there were several challenges trending throughout 2016 including the 100 layers challenge, whisper challenge, water bottle flip, and especially the mannequin challenge. Finally, the PPAP guy. He created the simple yet catching song of pen pineapple apple pen. On the other hand, there were several memes that trended all throughout 2016. Including, damn Daniel, Harambe, crying Jordan, Drake views, and Michael Phelps expression during Rio Olympics. Clearly, 2016 was a roller coaster of accomplishments, failures, trends, movies, songs, and drama.
