How to Fold a Shamrock
March 12, 2015
Saint Patrick’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick, is a cultural and religious celebration occurring annually on March 17, the death date of the most commonly-recognized patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick. One traditional symbol of Saint Patrick’s Day is the Shamrock. “Shamrock” is the common name for several different kinds of tree- leafed clovers native to Ireland. The shamrock was chosen Ireland’s national emblem because of the legend that St. Patrick had used it to illustrate the doctrine of the Trinity. The Trinity is the idea that God is really three-in-one: The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. However, to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day, these are the steps to fold a Shamrock.
- Start with one square origami paper.
- Fold the paper in half.
- Fold the paper in half the other ways and make a little square.
- Cut out the paper that has several layers in heart shape.
- Open up and fold diagonally to create leaf creases.
- Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
