When asked what being a captain means to them, Lauren Han (12) and Lauren Jo (12) explain that being a captain was a great honor. Han (12) expands that “I couldn’t be luckier to be with such a sweet and supportive group of girls. Being a captain also meant that, because I was entrusted to lead, I would need to be more open and observant than ever to find the best ways to fulfill my role.”
During the season, so many memories are made. Jo (12) explains that her favorite memory from the season would have to be “the ones that came unexpectedly”. Han (12) talks about her favorite memory being when “Our coach was running late one day, and the gates were locked, so I led stretches and conditioning in the parking lot. By the time our coach arrived, I was completely out of breath from laughing and racing my younger teammates to the YLHS sign.”
There are a lot of struggles that players go through during an athlete’s season, whether it be a tough match or struggling academics. Jo (12) states that her toughest moment this season was when “I was playing a tough match against Canyon. The girl I was playing against was obviously cheating, and the rest of my teammates and even her teammates knew it. I was so frustrated but I learned to accept it and overcome that difficulty.” Han (12) says that her toughest moment was struggling with her injury. Yet she “was more than proud to watch their practices and shout on the sidelines”.
