OC Parks Summer Movies and Concerts
May 30, 2023
Nothing says “Southern California” quite like its colorful, majestic wildflowers in Whiting Ranch or its serene, oceanside trails at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park—both located in “The OC.”
Home to the most iconic surf culture and hiking hotspots, Orange County is well-known for its aesthetically pleasing views and internationally renowned beaches. These outdoor wonders are maintained by the Orange County Parks and Recreation Department (OC Parks).
During the summer, the OC Parks will have free movie screenings and small concerts for the public in many of its parks.
The Sunset Cinema Series will be taking place on Fridays at 6 pm. Anyone can attend, and it is common for moviegoers to bring picnic chairs and blankets. Some of the parks are closer to YLHS than others and may appeal to different audiences, so it is recommended that visitors plan in advance. Some movies of interest to YLHS Mustangs may include Ferris Bueller’s Day Off on June 30th in Carbon Canyon Park, Brea; Clueless in Yorba Park, Anaheim; and Nacho Libre in Irvine Park, Orange. YLHS Mustang Taylor Burnett (11) offers her opinion:” The Sunset Cinema Series sounds like a really fun way to hang out with friends during the summer! I’ll be sure to check this out!” These films are sure to be a hit among locals.
The Summer Concert Series begins on June 22 and will consist of concerts from 6 pm-8 pm. These are also completely free and open to attendees of all ages. Many YLHS Mustangs who are fans of the 1990s sitcom Friends will recognize the Rembrandts as the alternative rock/pop band who created and performed the theme song, “I’ll Be There For You.” They will be headlining on July 6th at Irvine Park in Orange. Another must-see is Queen Nation– the most well-known Queen Tribute Band–who will rock Bluff Park at Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point on August 17th. Giovanni Exeni (12) shares that “the Summer Concert Series is a great opportunity for everyone to go out and enjoy the summer for free!
Mustangs can take this summer to create their own lasting memories with family and friends—amongst the natural beauty of the OC Parks!
