The school environment, especially zero-period classes, forms long-lasting bonds. In particular, Newspaper always feels like home rather than being forced to wake up before the sun is up to attend class.  Though writing is our job, the loving atmosphere around us makes it feel less pressured and stressful. “My favorite part about Newspaper is the safe environment we have created with each other,” shares Giana Mejia (10). Newspaper also provides many of us with the opportunity to share our writing. “I love Newspaper because of the people and my love for writing,” says Emma Perron (11).

Over the past school year and as time has progressed, Newspaper has become a closer-knit family than ever before. From donuts to sock exchanges, we even celebrate Easter together. Over the past weekend, our  Newspaper class took part in an Easter egg hunt,  and it is safe to say that everyone enjoyed hunting for eggs stuffed with various chocolates and candies. “I loved the Easter Egg hunt because it was fun  together as a class. We don’t get outside of class together often, but it was a lot of fun being with one another,” says  Emma Perron (11).

While many of our busy schedules keep us confined to the classroom, when we do have a chance to get out and about with one another, we take it. “The Easter Egg hunt was a great team bonding experience,” says Giana Mejia (10). Essentially, Newspaper is like a team of our own: our photojournalists produce articles relevant to day-to-day topics, which the editors revise, which the co-editors in chief then publish. It is a long, week-long process to upload an article, but it is all worth it when it is published. The feeling of pride that comes with having an article published is irreplaceable.

Newspaper is already a pretty close knit class, but we always interact with each other in a classroom environment. Having this Easter Egg hunt allowed us to really bond with each other and get close with each other in a new way.

“Newspaper is already a pretty close knit class, but we always interact with each other in a classroom environment. Having this Easter Egg hunt allowed us to really bond with each other and get close with each other in a new way,” Katelyn Ruggles (12).

For many of us, Newspaper has become a family: a group of people who we trust and can always count on to have a good time. We went from an early morning class to a home. All of us look forward to attending zero period and walking through the door to greet everyone. The Easter egg hunt and spending a few hours together on a bright afternoon brought many of us closer together. A lot of hard work and time goes into running this class. It truly is an experience to be involved in such a well-organized, student-run class.
