The weather is cooling, leaves are changing from bright greens to hues of yellow and orange, the scent of pumpkin spice fills the air – we have officially made it to fall! There are millions of activities to participate in during the fall season such as: apple picking, pumpkin carving, indulging in pumpkin spice foods, but one of the most nostalgic and warming activities is watching a classic fall themed movie.
- Hocus Pocus – PG
“Hocus Pocus” is one of the most iconic “fall” movies to watch. It is a movie based on the story of the Sanderson sisters. Set in Salem Massachusetts, a pair of young siblings accidentally free a coven of witches. With the help of a magical help, the kids must stop the witches from their plan of becoming immortal. This movie is a hilarious, yet chaotic movie that is definitely worth watching.
2. The Nightmare Before Christmas – PG
“The Nightmare Before Christmas” is an all time fan favorite spooky, fall movie. Following the adventure of Halloweentown’s pumpkin king –Jack Skellington– who stumbles into Christmastown, he plans to change up his usual routine and instead take over the role of Santa Clause. With its dark and ominous vibe, yet warming and exciting storyline, many people enjoy this movie and consider it a must-watch fall movie.
3. The Corpse Bride – PG
Traveling between the world of the living and the world of the dead, “The Corpse Bride” follows the storyline of Victor and Victoria whose families have arranged their marriage. Thrillingly, Emily –who resides in the land of the dead– drags Victor down to the land of the dead where she wishes to marry him. Facing many dilemmas, Victor must return above ground before Victoria marries the villain.
4. Beetlejuice – PG- 13
Starring Time Burton, Winona Ryder, and Jenna Ortega, the newest movie is a dark and mysterious sequel that perfectly compliments the original movie that was released in 1988. Three generations of the Deetz family return to an unexpected family tragedy, where Lydia discovers a mysterious portal to the afterlife. Mayhem is released each time “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!” is exclaimed.
5. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown – G
A warm and cute Charlie Brown film is perfect for getting into the fall spirit. Linus awaits the arrival of the Great Pumpkin and overcomes different fears and challenges. Released in 1996, this movie has a nostalgic feel to it that is perfect for a cozy night in.
With Halloween just around the corner and the fall season at its peak, these movies are perfect to indulge in, especially on the cold fall nights. Madalyn Kientz (11) shares, “I love staying in on cold fall nights because it’s the perfect time to get cozy and watch some of my favorite movies” .
