For all of November and December, Hallmark and holiday Netflix original movies are streamed in many homes across the country. Some people may watch movies that touch lightly on the concept of winter, such as cozy movies like some of the Harry Potter movies or Narina. Others will watch movies such as The Holiday and Why Him? Some, like Nikita Gupta (10) will watch, “classics like Die Hard and Home Alone. Both of which are fun to watch with friends and family around this time.” Either way, the holiday spirit and free time make people watch tons of movies. Now that Valentine’s Day is coming up, the decision of what movies to watch comes up again. All movies watched on this holiday involve some sort of romance idea, either happy, sad, or bittersweet. So, what movies should people watch?

In Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey join together to play two “carefree” characters after they partake in surgeries to rid them of the memories of their harsh breakups. The movie denotes the ups and downs of relationships at all stages. It is a perfect relaxing movie with a few sad scenes but many happy ones.

Before Sunrise is another movie that captivates audiences with a pure “rom-com”. It portrays two people, Jesse and Celine, who meet by chance in Paris, immediately sparking a connection. Since Jesse’s flight back to the United States would be the following day, the movie follows the pair as they spend more and more time with each other, slowly realizing that Jesse should not leave for his flight the next day, after sunrise.

If Beale Street Could Talk is a movie set in ‘70s Harlem depicting a love story between an engaged couple as they reflect on their relationship through how long they’ve known each other and what their future will look like. The couple faces many obstacles, one of which is a defining moment in the tone of the movie; the fiancé gets framed for a crime. This sends the couple further onto a test of loyalty and strength as it displays to audiences just how strong relationships can be.

Of course, any movie watched on or around Valentine’s Day with loved ones is a cozy movie. Whether it’s Gnomeo and Juliet or the Godfather, the spirit of the centuries-old holiday is to celebrate admiration, love, and friendship in all forms.
