How to Have a Productive Day
April 11, 2021
Each day starts differently and can have a huge impact on our productivity. While some people are able to start their mornings with energy, others are overcome by laziness, which results in a lack of motivation. However, various actions and mindsets can boost productivity and help steer away from laziness that hinders productivity.
One thing we can do to stay productive is to get as much sleep as we need. Getting enough sleep each night is essential to the mind and body. Not getting enough sleep will result in a groggy mood throughout the day. Sleeping not only keeps us awake and alert throughout the day but also boosts productivity. According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, people who sleep less experience more daytime sleepiness, which leads to a significant loss in productivity. That being said, sufficient sleep will help to maintain productivity throughout the day.
Limiting the amount of time spent on the Internet will also promote productivity. Each day, countless people use their electronics to browse online and often get distracted. In fact, Forbes states that in 2020, the global average daily time spent online was just under seven hours with the highest percentage of time was spent on social media. This proves how addictive the Internet is and how much time it could possibly take out of our day. Therefore, restricting Internet use will have a huge impact on one’s productivity. If we use the Internet only when it is absolutely necessary, we can ensure that there are no distractions and that we stay focused on our tasks.
To stay productive we can also make sure to eat and drink water each morning. As insignificant as this may seem, skipping breakfast can deprive us of the energy we need to start each day. WebMD states that when we wake up, our bodies need nutrients from food to power our brains and muscles. Eating breakfast each morning will allow us to get the energy we need to stay productive throughout the day. Analise Hopper (10) adds that “eating breakfast every morning helps [her] feel energized to have a good start to each day.” Getting hydration in the morning is just as important as eating breakfast. USA Today states that drinking a glass of water helps with fatigue, which improves daily production.
These tips are just a few of the things we can do to have a productive day. It is essential to stay motivated throughout the day so that time is spent as efficiently as possible and the most can be made out of each day.

Awesome ideas in this article! This connects a lot to AP students right now trying out figure out their schedules while having max productivity. Something that has worked for me is having a written schedule with all of the events for the month and homework each day.

I definitely needed this, Tiana. I can definitely vouch for a need for sleep — given that I get about 4 hours per night, I always have to sleep for an additional 4 hours after school just to regain my productivity. Great article!

This is a great article to motivate people to be more productive, as I feel that over quarantine many people have been less productive due to an unstable routine and many distractions with online learning.

I like how you included the importance of eating and drinking every morning. I used to skip breakfast every day, but I’ve noticed a huge increase in energy even after eating something small.
