One hundred eighty days is about the time you spend in one year of school. At Yorba Linda High School, you have four years of spending 180 days, but in those 180 days, what will you do, who will you become, and where do you fit in? High school is scary to navigate and is never easy to do alone, with many obstacles, challenges, and bumps in the road leading to graduation day. But between the first day of freshman year to graduation, it is a time to reflect on yourself and what you want, find where you belong, find out what you like and dislike, and become the best version of yourself.
At YLHS, there are many different journeys for students depending on where they associate themselves; whether it be academics, athletics, or the arts, every student finds a place where they belong. In academics, students pack themself with honors/AP classes and clubs, allowing them to focus their time on school and grades, which they believe is who they are and where they find themselves thriving. Still, in academics, they find people who are like them and strive for the same goals of high GPA, good grades, and the feeling of accomplishment. Mia Dorsman (11) states, “My academics mean a lot to me and I find myself spending a lot of time with my school work.”
However, other students at YLHS thrive in their sports and refer to themselves as student-athletes. They focus on school but find themselves happy in their sport and being surrounded by peers who enjoy the same passion. In athletics, these students become a family with their team, giving them a sense of belonging in our extensive school. One last thing YLHS has to offer is the arts. Most of our students journey into art and love the arts, whether it be singing, acting, painting/drawing, cooking, photography, videos, or playing an instrument.
At Yorba Linda High School, we have many excellent programs for the arts that help students reach their potential and feel there is a place for them to express their emotions and feelings while trying to navigate all the other feelings in life. The journey through high school is difficult, but at YLHS, it is our goal to help every student find a place to belong. Finding a place to devote your time to, whether it be academics, athletics, or the arts, allows students an easier path to navigate in high school and to find their identity in these four years at Yorba Linda High School.
