10 Activities to Do in Quarantine
June 8, 2020
During such a scary time, it is good to distract ourselves from the fear brought about by this virus. As the news is flooded with updates, staying home and filling our brains with worry is not the best way to kill our time. So here are a few fun activities that will keep you from going crazy while quarantined.
- Make a pillow fort. Surely, everyone has made a fort sometime during their childhood. Whether you have or have not, this “mini-project” will always give you light-hearted pleasure.
- Learn how to do a magic trick. Simply searching for tutorials online will provide you with countless tricks to learn. Not only will this kill your time, but you will also have a talent to show off to your friends and family.
- Go work out. Working out usually doesn’t make us jump for joy, but when thinking about how much we sit around all day, whether working from home or watching a movie, moving around is something everyone needs to do more.
- Be artistic. Everyone should have a hobby. So trying out new things like painting, drawing, cooking, or learning how to play an instrument can finally expose you to finding a new hobby. We always use the excuse that we do not have the time to be artistic. Yet now we have doe, so go paint something!
- Take random Buzzfeed quizzes. Have you ever wondered what type of cake you are? Think of any random quiz and it’s probably on Buzzfeed. As a lazy individual myself, this is my favorite activity since you can do it from the comfort of your own bed.
- Do a difficult puzzle. Grab your family and sit down to do a 1000 piece puzzle together while talking and/or watching a movie. Everything is more fun when spending time with family and friends.
- Have a photoshoot. Not only is it fun to get creative with taking pictures, but looking back at your pictures can increase your self-confidence and improve your mental health.
- Do yoga or meditate. Speaking of mental health, simple forms of physical activity can largely improve your mental state. Usually, we are all bombarded with stress, so it is nice to take time for yourself and slow down.
- Set new goals for yourself. There is always room for improvement. A habit I started at the beginning of this year is to focus on one goal per month. By the end of the year, imagine how much progress you will have made. This is a much more effective way to have goals since keeping up with multiple goals at once usually does not work out.
- Wash your hands! I am sure you have been told this numerous times by now, but it is always better to stay safe and keep your friends and family safe.
Karina Shah (10) adds that “this is a terrifying time for the world, so keeping ourselves busy and safe is the best way to spend time while quarantined. Stay home, stay aware, and stay busy.” Happy quarantining!
