It is not every day that we see a freshman break a school record, but Isabella Wroblewski did just that. She even broke her own record a few weeks later. Isabella is a freshman who runs cross country and track at Yorba Linda High School.
After a great first season of cross country, Isabella switched to track to train for her spring season. She runs the 400m, 800m, 1600m, and 3200m. She also runs 4×400 and 4×800.
She runs many races at YLHS, but the one she brought the record in was the women’s 800m. On March 1st, at her meet at Los Al Distance Carnival, she ran a 2:16.29, breaking the school record and gaining a new PR for the season. The previous school record was 2:14.98, set in 2021 by Sienna Palicke.
Isabella Wroblewski (9) expresses, “I was thrilled to break the record because it was set by a senior who ran at UCLA and Texas A&M. Sienna was a very talented runner at Yorba Linda High School, so to break her record was very exciting. I also made it my goal to break her record my sophomore or junior year, so to achieve my goal my first year was very surprising.”
Isabella has been training every day to keep improving. She wants to keep working hard to continue pushing herself because she knows she can do so much more. About a month later, she broke her record and PR once again. She ran the women’s 800m and 2:13.92 at the Arcadia Invitational. Isabella shaved off about 3 seconds. In just a month, she has proven that her training has helped her improve and pushed her to new limits. Isabella (9) states, “I love the feeling of a good competition and the thrill afterward.” Isabella shows how she wants to work for herself because she wants to beat records and now her record. She loves competing with others and feels this will help her push herself these next three years at YLHS.
Isabella is only a freshman and has a bright future ahead of her. She will be able to help out with the cross-country program and the track and field program. She is a hard worker but also a fantastic teammate and leader to her peers. Isabella (9) states, “I love track because it brings me closer to my amazing teammates and allows me to bond more with my dad, the coach.” To break a record in first year is wild, but Isabella did it not just once but twice. She has a bright future ahead of her, and we can’t wait to see what she does.
