The 2017 Star Wars Celebration
April 26, 2017
This year’s Star Wars Celebration has come to an end, and announcements and more were brought to Orlando by Lucasfilm
Star Wars Celebration kicked off with the “40 Years of Star Wars” panel, during which Disney and Lucasfilm shared a touching tribute to the late Carrie Fisher. George Lucas spent a few minutes talk about Carrie Fisher and reflect on the important role she played in the Star Wars saga as Leia Organa. “There really aren’t very many people like her,” he said. “They’re one in a billion. And for this part, she was absolutely perfect.” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, who later confirmed Fisher won’t be in Episode IX, also shared a few words about the actress, saying, “there was no greater honor than that of working with the late and truly great Carrie Fisher. She was unlike anyone you’ve known.” Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, shared a few words about her mother as well. “My mom used to say she never knew where Leia ended and she began,” she said.
Star Wars Celebration 2017 also featured plenty of new information on Disneyland’s Star Wars Land, which will focus on providing an immersive experience, putting you in the middle of a Star Wars story and making you feel like you’re actually there. In fact, one of the main rides will allow you to control the Millennium Falcon. It was also revealed that Disneyland’s Star Tour attractions, which randomly take guests to many different worlds from the Star Wars films, is getting a big new location with the addition of Crait from Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
During the Star Wars Rebels panel, show co-creator and executive producer Dave Filoni announced that the upcoming fourth season will be the animated show’s last. “I really appreciate that love from you guys. I think I can make this story as meaningful as can be,” Filoni said to the fans in attendance. Alongside this news, the trailer for Star Wars Rebels Season 4 made its debut. We also learned that, in addition to showing Hera become a Rogue One general, Season 4 will mark the return of Bo-Katan Kryze (voiced by Katee Sackhoff) from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and that Warwick Davis is voicing Rukh in the new season.
A panel for Star Wars Battlefront II was also held at this year’s celebration, during which Electronic Arts debuted a stunning trailer and announced a November 17 release date. The upcoming sequel will feature a single-player campaign. It was also confirmed that Battlefront II won’t have a season pass and that offline local co-op will be available as a console-exclusive feature.
