The Kids Choice Awards

Have you ever skipped channels on television and came across the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards? Like the Teen Choice Awards, People’s Choice Awards and the Oscars, the Nickelodean Kid’s Choice Awards is an award ceremony where movies, songs and celebrities get awarded with an orange blimp based on the number of votes they receive from children across the world.

Famous for their sliming, when celebrities come to receive their award, some leave clean and smiling with their orange blimp, while others are covered with green slime that shoots out from the sides of the stage. Many famous celebrities who have attested to the slime were Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Nick Jonas, Heidi Klum and Shawn Mendes.

The categories of awards include: favorite movie, favorite television show, favorite singer, favorite cartoon, favorite actor and actress, favorite song, favorite musical group, favorite book and favorite video game. This year many well known artists and icons will be joining the award show, including host Blake Shelton, Ellen Degeneres, DNCE, Fifth Harmony, and other surprise guests!

Nicole Espinoza (12) says that her “favorite part is finding out the winner of the golden blimp, the ultimate award of the Kids Choice Awards,  as well as finding out who won the favorite artist blimp because [she] loves seeing the different artists get awarded and what they have to offer on stage as well as off. It’s nice that kids can have an award show with their interests when there are so many other prestigious award shows out there.”

Another student here at Yorba Linda High School, Isabelle Tosques (12) says that “The Kid’s Choice Awards is a blast because kids can have a voice in who they want to win, rather than different award shows where they don’t have a say. [She] believes that the voices of children are going to one day shape America, so their opinions need to be recognized and heard.”

The filming of the Kid’s Choice Awards will take place on Thursday, March 10th, while the actual award show with the celebrities will be held on the following weekend, Saturday, March 12th. Even though it’s tough to get tickets to the awards in person at the Forum in Inglewood, California, it is an amazing experience being able to be seen on television as well as taking pictures on the orange carpet and meeting one’s favorite celebrities in person, if one gets the opportunity.

Make sure to toon onto Nickelodeon this weekend and watch the Kid’s Choice Awards to see one’s favorite celebrities and tv shows get awarded with an orange blimp!
