Yorba Linda High School has its fair share of clubs, ranging from language and art clubs to volunteer and political clubs. One specific non-partisan political club is thriving at YLHS: Turning Point United States of America.

Turning Point USA (TPUSA) is a “501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 2012 by Charlie Kirk. The organization’s mission is to identify, educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of freedom, free markets, and limited government” (TPUSA.com). TPUSA brings advocating for the rights of the individual back to high school and college campuses.

The current board advised by Mrs. Sharon Farrell (S) consists of President Jered Baloloy (12), Vice President Anjeli Webb (10), Secretary Kimberly Williams (11), Treasurer Nolan Stoterau (12), Membership Coordinator Matthew Williams (11), and Events Coordinator Madison Ems (10)

Yorba Linda Mustangs Jered Baloloy and Matthew Williams established this chapter of fiscally conservative clubs on campus in October of 2020. Their chapter-specific goals are to inform students on political and social topics and encourage discussion between students. This means that this club is not exclusive to any specific demographic and encourages ideological diversity to fight for freedom. Mustang members may be self-identified Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Greens, or even Independents and can have extensive knowledge on political issues or just be interested in the state of their society, as all are welcome to this organization. Secretary Kimberly Williams (11) explains, “I joined specifically because I wanted to get people informed about the political climate we’re in today. I’m not necessarily extremely conservative myself, but I still share some of those values that Turning Point has.” She hopes that Mustangs will come together and learn from Turning Point USA.

Events:

Members of TPUSA can look forward to large political conferences such as the yearly Student Action Summit, Young Women’s Leadership Summit, and Young Black Leadership Summit. There will be a Southwest Regional Conference this April, so stay tuned for more information!

Last December marked the groundbreaking event Americafest in Phoenix, Arizona. In addition to hosting previous popular conservative speakers such as Tucker Carlson, Kayleigh McEnany, Jeanine Pirro, and several members of Congress, TPUSA’s Americafest included live music by hit country artists that were well received by attendees.

Campus events currently consist of monthly discussions with energy-filled trivia games. Speaker events and political summits with other political clubs are currently in the works. Equally as entertaining non-political club activities like bowling, volunteering, and beach bonfires can be also be anticipated.
