Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston is the God of Mischief and Thor’s brother. He was the main antagonist of the first Avengers movie, but throughout the sequential releases, he has become a fan favorite often fighting alongside his brother, Thor, and The Avengers. In addition, his humorous personality and charm led him to be a fan favorite, as in a poll done by ScreenRant, he is one of the most popular characters (screenrant.com). The popularity of the character made him an obvious pick for a new Disney+ series, and after the successes of WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, every marvel fan is excited for the new series, Loki. Set to release on June 9th, 2021 on Disney+, this “time heist” series will follow “the mercurial villain Loki” after the events of Avengers: Endgame (disneyplus.com)

During Avengers: Endgame, Loki steals the tesseract and transports it to an unknown place while the Avengers go back in time. Time travel was an important part of the last installment of the Avengers films, and it was clear that Loki messed up the timelines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the trailers, Loki finds himself arrested by the Time Variance Authority, an organization of people who are in charge of overseeing the timelines. This organization needs his help to reset the timeline (digitaltrends.com). However, being the God of Mischief, the audience is unsure if he will actually help. In addition, this Loki is not the Loki who died in Avengers: Infinity War and went through important events that developed his character, such as his parent’s deaths and the events of Thor Ragnorak and other films. Many theories believe that he will run away or attempt to deceive the time, and they often point out the part in the trailer where Loki and a leader of the Time Variance Authority discuss his multiple times he has backstabbed other people during his life.

Also, many fans predict that Loki will ultimately cause a lot of chaos, as multiple scenes in the trailer. With the addition of time travel to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are endless possibilities and realities that will occur with the use of time travel. Fans predict that Loki will encounter himself and other Marvel characters throughout the series while also potentially messing up more timelines than he already messed up. Encountering other characters might open the door for deceased characters to return, and since many characters died during the last two films of the Avengers saga, this could potentially be the last chance to see these characters.

The cast of this series also indicates some information about this series. Owen Wilson will play Mobius M. Mobius, a Time Variance Authority agent who is supposed to work with Loki. Sophia DiMartino is suggested to play a female version of Loki. Gugu Mbatha-Raw is supposed to play Judge Rensleyer, who is the judge of the Time Variance Authority as well as Ravonna Rensleyer and love interest of Kang the Conqueror, an upcoming Marvel Villain. Thus, these new characters may be pivotal to the series as well as the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole. Loki is supposed to set up two upcoming Marvel films: Thor: Love and Thunder and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Somewhere in the series, fans predict that Jane Foster will either be hinted at becoming Lady Thor or become Lady Thor which will set up Thor: Love and Thunder. By breaking so many realities, characters like Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch might need to help Loki leading to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (screenrant.com)

As school comes to an end, many students are looking forward to the Loki series. Chris Yach (11) is “excited to see what they do with the Loki series and can’t wait to watch it when it comes out.” Overall, Loki seems like an interesting and entertaining series that will develop the beginnings of Marvel Phase 4.
