Eldrick Tont “Tiger” Woods is an American professional golfer. He is tied for first in PGA Tour wins, ranks second in men’s major championships, and holds numerous golf records. While on his way to a golf shoot he got into a fatal car crash. Interestingly enough, Woods had been involved in another car accident in 2009.

Woods was in California for a two-day content shoot with Golf Digest/GOLF TV after hosting the Genesis Invitational, which finished on Sunday. There have been many photos surfacing on social media of Woods smiling with Dwayne Wade and David Spade at Rolling Hills Country Club on Monday. Although because of his back procedure he had just a few months ago, he was restricted to minimal movement. Therefore, he did not hit balls or play any holes. The shoot involved Woods giving on-course lessons to a number of celebrities, but he mostly provided instruction and hit a few putts. He was in good spirits on Monday but did not arrive at the course for the second day of shooting.

Tiger Woods was alone in a 2021 Genesis GV80 SUV and he was headed northbound on a downhill, windy portion of Hawthorne Ave., on a road in Rancho Palos Verdes. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Woods was driving at a “relatively greater speed than normal” when his vehicle crossed onto the wrong side of the road before veering off the road completely and up on a hillside. A nearby neighbor called 911 to alert the authorities of the accident. When the authorities found him Woods was still conscious when they arrived on the scene.

Due to the brutality of the crash, Woods received horrible injuries. His injuries included comminuted open fractures -a comminuted fracture is when a bone breaks into more than two pieces, and an open fracture suggests that the bone broke through the skin- to both the upper and lower portions of his tibia and fibula in his right leg, as well as damage to the ankle bones and trauma to the muscle and soft tissue of the leg. Luckily he was quickly taken to a hospital “Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for three days following the crash, had a rod placed in his tibia and screws and pins inserted in his foot and ankle during emergency surgery. In a statement posted to Twitter on Friday, Woods’ account announced the additional surgeries. (CBS)

Clearly this crash has taken a big toll on his career. Although like Madison Ems (9) states that, “Tiger Woods is a great golfer and an incredible athlete with a long history of great performances. He has endured several sports injuries throughout his career and recovered. Although he is a bit older now, he is still in great shape and will no doubt make a full recovery.”
