A “SpookTacular” Streaming of Halloween Movies
October 24, 2020
It’s finally October! That means “spooky season” is officially here! This season brings pumpkins, fall colors, crunchy leaves, and most importantly Halloween movies!
Starting off this list of popular Halloween movies are movies that can be found on Amazon Prime, whether streamed or rented/bought. Amazon is a great place to look for flicks because unlike other streaming services, anyone can purchase a movie to watch without having a monthly membership. All it takes to rent or buy the film you want is an Amazon account, no added monthly fees. The movies found on Amazon are rated among the most popular Halloween movies of all time and are loved by many. The list available for Halloween viewing pleasure includes classics such as The Shining, Scream, The Nightmare on Elm Street, Beetlejuice, Coraline, Monster House, It, and The Ring. Amazon offers a great selection of spooky movies and is a good place to start when you are in the mood for some eerie films.
If you don’t feel like purchasing a movie, then there are other streaming services such as Disney+, Netflix, and Hulu that you may already subscribe to. All of these streaming providers offer a variety of Halloween movies.
Disney+ is the home of many classic Halloween movies. This relatively new platform has recently made a specific “Halloween collection” that can be found when you press the search button. The most popular movies in this collection include The Nightmare Before Christmas, Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Frankenweenie, and The Haunted Mansion. Some of these movies have even become holiday traditions to some families, being watched year after year.
Another popular streaming network is Netflix. This platform also has multiple Halloween classics available including The Addams Family, Sleepy Hollow, A Haunted House, The Babysitter, The Silence of the Lambs, Truth or Dare, and all of the Goosebumps movies!
In addition to its older Halloween flicks, Netflix has recently launched a brand new Halloween Movie, Hubie Halloween. Netflix describes its new movie, saying: “It’s October 31st in Salem, Massachusetts, and a town’s eccentric, devoted community volunteer and the good-natured object of his fellow citizen’s derision and meanest pranks, finds himself in the midst of a real investigation, for a real murderer”. The movie was released on October 7th, 2020, and has received great reviews! Sophomore Nikki Nicolavna (10) said “My family loves Adam Sandler and it was a really good family movie to watch since Halloween’s coming up!”
Hulu, another popular streaming network, also offers their fair share of spooky movies. Some of the most popular scary movies on Hulu include Corpse Bride, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Villains, Friday The 13th Part 3, Crawl, and Fun Size. Hulu makes it easy for its viewers to find Halloween movies by having a separate section titled “Huluween,” which makes it simple to pick just the right film for your audience.
While the pandemic continues to shut down parties and traditional Halloween festivities, one thing it can’t take away is our enjoyment of seasonal at-home movies. So this fall season make sure to grab your candy corn, cuddle up with loved ones, and stream yourself a spooky Halloween movie!
