Digital Camera Resurgence

Faith DeSio
Old school digital cameras are the latest trend!

News “Flash!” The latest trend to gain in popularity is about 20 years old – digital cameras. Why the heck are chunky digital cameras back in style when almost every person in the world has a camera attached to their phone and readily available in their pocket? The “nostalgia” and “vibe” of a digital camera is completely different from the standard iPhone camera. Although the quality may not be as good, the grainy exposure and dynamic that the digital camera produces is very unique. In fact, it’s this distinct texturing that is making these old school cameras make a comeback.

Social media plays a huge role in why vintage cameras are making a comeback. The 2000’s style seems to be coming back to the fashion world once again. So why not bring back some 2000’s technology while we are at it? Digital photography is popping up more and more on social media platforms such as Instagram, Pinterest, VSCO, and even a small Tumblr revamp. The aesthetic of the digital photos stands out greatly compared to the “normal” photos people are used to seeing. You can easily tell when a picture was taken on a digital camera.

There is also a coolness factor in bringing a digital camera to events. It is common to see digital photos from parties and school dances. “Hey let me get a photo” – everyone. People always want their picture taken with a digital camera rather than a regular phone camera. The use of the flash makes certain features stand out, brings the exposure up and down, has better depth of field, and gives colors a huge pop. The “vintage” feel is something that can never be lost when taking a photo on a digital camera.

Luckily, teens are finding it easy to import their photos from their digital cameras. One student, Katie Ellsworth (12), says “I love my digital camera! It is so fun taking all kinds of pictures on it.”

In fact, the ease of use is one of the great features about digital cameras. With only a $15 adapter photos can be easily uploaded. This adapter connects directly to the phone and has a port to stick the camera’s USD card. This allows for a quick, yet high quality, import. It makes the photos extra easy to share and post.

Be prepared to see an uptick of digital cameras wherever you go! Hop on the craze, head to your local thrift store, and start taking pictures! Go vintage, and you won’t regret it!

It is interesting how something could become trendy because of grainy exposure.

I’m so so glad that this trend is coming back!! I love this article and how it explains all the different uses and facets of the digital camera. The 2000’s style is so cute and there definitely is a “coolness factor” with others. For example, bestie Caydence in ASB has a digital Instagram account. It is cute and everyone enjoys it.

I had noticed a lot of people having digital cameras, and I was asking the same thing too! It was really cool reading this article because I was surprised at how digital cameras have a vintage filter to them. Maybe I will get a digital camera!
