What do you know about the YLHS art classes? Besides fulfilling high school graduation requirements, all the classes YLHS offers can take you to explore and expand your artistic horizons. From visual arts to performing arts, there is something for everyone to discover and thrive in.
For those interested in the visual arts, the Fine Arts Department offers countless opportunities. From fundamental art courses that require no prerequisites and serve as the perfect starting point for beginners to advanced AP studio art courses covering a variety of mediums, including 2D, 3D, ceramics, and painting; there is a path for every skill and interest level.
Animation, ceramics, painting, photography, and branding are popular choices, offering a unique avenue for creative expression. As Kaitlyn Hwang (11) says, Brand Design “[is] one of the classes offered on campus that help prepare its students to be ready for the workplace and is prompt-based, which allows students to be openly creative when it comes to creating their brands. I would recommend that people join if they are interested in starting a small business and are more interested in the creation of art for clothing.”
At the same time, the Department of Performing Arts provides a stage for music and drama talents to display their talents. Advanced Band, Jazz Band, Guitar, Orchestra, Choir, Vocal Ensemble, Dance, Color Guard, and Theater Arts programs provide students with opportunities to hone their skills and demonstrate their passion for music, dance, and theater.
According to Mrs. Pike (S), “Ceramics, Photography, and Art Fundamentals are very popular as they have the most sections and students. There are many art courses which are also very popular, [including] Brand Creation, 3D Art, Yearbook, Advanced Video, Theater, and Guitar. All of our performing and visual arts courses, depending on your interest, are a great way to test your creative talents that you may not know exist until you take the course!”
However, it is important to note that different art courses may have different schedules. For example, the Art Fundamental class is only available during the zero periods. Therefore, students must choose courses that fit their schedules and interests. If students have any questions or need more information, they are encouraged to visit the YLHS website or contact their teacher via email for clarification.
In summary, Yorba Linda High School offers many arts curriculums that provide students with opportunities to explore and develop their creative talents. All visual and performing arts courses at YLHS count as art credit for UC and graduation requirements.
