For some, Halloween is a time to dress up, go out, and party all night. For others, it is an excuse to grab a bag of candy, snuggle up in a warm blanket, and binge-watch all of those great Halloween movies. Students at YLHS have said what they like to do and watch on Halloween. “Even though people typically wear costumes and go trick or treating, I prefer staying at home with my friends, eating junk food, and watching classic Halloween movies like Halloweentown,” said Arezu Monshizadeh (10). If that’s you, then this Halloween, use this guide of the best Halloween movies to get you through the night.

  1. Halloweentown(1998)

Disney channel classics are always the way to go, especially for Halloween. Halloweentown is about a girl, (Kimberly J. Brown), who after discovering she is a witch, helps to save a town full of other supernatural creatures. It is adventurous, funny, and will definitely get you feeling that Halloween vibe.

  1. Hocus Pocus (1993)

Another Disney Channel classic, Hocus Pocus is about three witch sisters that after three centuries, are resurrected in Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween night. It is up to two teenagers and one fearless little girl to put an end to the witchs’ terror once and for all. Another fun and lighthearted movie that is perfect for the occasion.

  1. Halloween (1978)

If horror movies are your thing, Halloween is the perfect movie to watch on Halloween. It is about a man, Michael Myers, who on Halloween night of 1963, stabbed his sister to death. After being in a mental hospital for 15 years, he escapes and is ready to go back to his town for revenge. Halloween is scary, suspenseful, and will do a great job of keeping you up this Halloween night.

  1. Scream (1996)

The Scream franchise is now up to four movies, but the original one is a Halloween classic. The Ghostface killer has been killing teenagers living in a small town. A girl and her friends set out to find him, but not everyone survives! If you are looking for a horror movie with a twist, you won’t find a better one than Scream.

  1. Would You Rather (2012)

This movie is a twisted story about a desperate woman who, in order to help her ill brother, unknowingly agrees to compete in a deadly game of “Would You Rather” hosted by a very sick man. This movie is terrifying, but great for people who really want to get their scare on.

     7. Edward Scissorhands (1990)

Last, but not least is Edward Scissorhands. Tim Burton movies are always great and for Halloween, Edward Scissorhands is definitely perfect. Peter Travers from Rolling Stone even explained how,” Edward Scissorhands isn’t perfect. Its something better: pure magic.” It has an original plotline and charming characters, but beware! While this movie may not scare you much, it may evoke a few tears instead.
