College Visits: What They are For
October 17, 2016
Seniors, whether you want to or not, this is the time that you have to start thinking about college and what you want to do for the next four years of your lives. The college admissions process can be brutal, so it is best to keep on top of things by being organized and aware of certain deadlines.
One opportunity students at YLHS have is to attend a session that is hosted by specific college admissions counselors themselves. Representatives from big colleges actually schedule days of which you can go to the library or forum and hear them speak. Now, you may be thinking, “Why would I want to go sit in a room and listen to a college advisor speak for an hour?” It might seem like a boring thought, but attending these sessions can actually be very helpful and informative.
For students who are applying to many different types of schools, it can be very difficult to keep all the different application requirements organized in your head. Attending these college visits can help ease those nerves by informing you of exactly what you need to do in order to apply to that specified school. Instead of general application information, these sessions offer unique information that is specialized for that individual campus.
Another benefit of attending these sessions is to have the opportunity to personally ask the admissions counselor your own questions at the end of the meeting. Having this one-on-one time can be beneficially to many students because most students have numerous amounts of questions that they have not been able to ask anyone yet. Harshal Vaza (12) said he likes that these programs are offered because “they give us a chance to learn more about what the school is really like.”
So how do you sign up for these sessions? You can go to the Counseling page on the YLHS website and then find the google classroom page that is specified for the college visits. On that Google Classroom page you should be able to click on the school of your choices and type in your name on the attendance roster. It is that easy!
Check out the Google Classroom page for the complete list of colleges. For now, here are a few of the upcoming colleges that are coming here on the YLHS campus:
