When twelve-time Grammy-winning performer Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce join forces, one can only imagine the possibilities.
If you have been keeping up with Miss Americana herself –or even using the internet at all– you may have heard the rumors surrounding her dating life, recently including a certain fan-favorite NFL star. During the event that swept the world by storm, the Eras Tour, Travis Kelce attended, hoping to come home with a little more than a friendship bracelet. In a podcast with his brother and Philadelphia Eagles center, Jason Kelce, Travis jokes, “I was a little butthurt that I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her.” If you have been living under a rock, fans of Swift partake in friendship bracelet trading at her concerts, derived from a lyric in the song “You’re On Your Own Kid” from her newest album, Midnights. Kelce hoped to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number after watching her performance at Arrowhead Stadium, his home field. Post friendship bracelet debacle, Travis Kelce has thrown several other suggestive comments onto the internet. More recently, Swift was caught attending the Chiefs game with Kelce’s mom and was even recorded leaving the game with Travis Kelce himself… we love a supportive couple!
Now, this innocent relationship still begs the question: is it real? Once the news of the two surfaced, Swifties (self-proclaimed superfans of Taylor Swift) took it upon themselves to dive deep into this new, potential relationship. Many have begun to speculate the benefits of this relationship on one another’s careers. Some fans mentioned that Swift began to manifest Kelce back in 2006 accidentally. In the song “Mary’s Song (Oh My My My),” one lyric sparks interest in Swifties, that being, “I’ll be eighty-seven; you’ll be eighty-nine.” At first glance, this lyric may seem rather irrelevant; however, Kelce plays as number 87 on the Chiefs, and Swift has crafted an entire album revolving around the number 89, 1989. Coincidently, Taylor is releasing her rerecording of 1989 on October 27, 2023… so it almost seems like the uproar of this relationship could help promote her new album.
Additionally, some fans tuned in to watch the Chiefs football game on September 23 to catch a glimpse of Miss Swift… more streams on 1989 and more streams for the Chiefs game mean more money! Now, I’m not saying that this relationship is all a PR stunt, but it does not necessarily hurt their publicity and uniting two opposing fan bases. In lighter news, Taylor Swift fan Isabella Colin (12) claims, “Travis could be inspiring Taylor to create a fantastic song in the future!
” With all of this being said, hopefully, Kelce and Swift are just a happy couple, and if a few promotional benefits come with that, more power to them!
Despite possible publicity stunt speculations, after seeing Taylor leave the Chiefs game with her new interest, she truly does seem to be happy and feel safe, which is all we want for our Miss Americana.
